** I am accredited with the BABCP, the lead organisation in Irelnd and the UK for CBT.**
Cognitive therapy is a form of psychotherapy (talking therapy). It is a well researched and evidence based practice. Cognitive therapy aims to help you change the way that you think, feel and behave. Its aim is to help you feel and function better now and in to the future.
Conditions that can be helped by cognitive therapy are:
- anxiety disorders (social anxiety, panic disorder, generalised anxiety)
- obsessive compulsive disorder
- post traumatic stress disorder
- depression
In addition to my practice as a cognitive psychotherapist, I have worked my entire career in the field of mental health and as such I have extensive experience within this specialism. I qualified as a psychiatric nurse in 1986 (RMN). I worked as a staff nurse prior to completing a diploma in Community Nursing (Pg Dip Community Nursing) at the University of Ulster. I worked as a community psychiatric nurse (CPN) from 1991 to 1999 full time and thereafter shared my role between nursing and cognitive therapy when I qualified from Queen’s University Belfast in 1999 with Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy (Pg Dip Cognitive Therapy) as a practitioner within mental health services.
I have worked with many people who have experienced acute and/or enduring mental health issues. I have significant practice working with people who have contemplated or acted upon thoughts of su***de. I delivered su***de first aid training to community, statutory and voluntary services for 10 years. I have extensive experience working with individuals with complex issues, including trauma, depression, anxiety, childhood traumas and interpersonal/relationship problems. I am accredited with the BABCP which is the lead organisation for CBT in Ireland and the Uk.
Testimonials from clients help me to know that I help provide them with a client focused approach that has enabled them to change, set goals, make progress, as well as appreciate and accept themselves for the unique individual that we can all claim to be.
I hope this gives you an understanding of the benefits of cognitive therapy and how I may help you. For an appointment, please message me via Facebook, email or telephone to discuss how my services may benefit you.
