Did you know babies are born with special reflexes to help them survive and grow? These primitive reflexes should fade as the brain develops — but sometimes they stick around. Here are a few:
👶 Moro Reflex — The “startle” reflex. If retained, it can cause hypersensitivity, anxiety, or an exaggerated startle response.
👀 ATNR (Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex) — The “fencing” reflex. If retained, it can affect reading, writing, and crossing the midline.
🧍♂️ STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex) — Helps babies learn to crawl. If retained, it can affect posture, sitting still, and focus.
👣 TLR (Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex) — Helps with head control and balance. If retained, it can cause poor balance and muscle tone issues.
🦶 Spinal Galant Reflex — Assists with birth. If retained, it can cause fidgeting and trouble sitting still.
💡 Good news: retained reflexes can be gently integrated with the right support and activities!
