Hello and welcome to the Tinnitus Support Group! This is a place where you can share your experiences, ask questions, and find support from others who understand what itβs like to live with tinnitus.
Tinnitus is the perception of sound that does not have an external source, so other people cannot hear it1. It is commonly described as a ringing sound, but some people hear other types of sounds, such as roaring or buzzing. Tinnitus is common, with surveys estimating that 10 to 25% of adults have it. Children can also have tinnitus.
Tinnitus can be caused by many factors, such as noise exposure, hearing loss, ear infections, medications, stress, or other health conditions. Sometimes, the cause is unknown. Tinnitus can vary in severity and frequency, and it can affect your quality of life and well-being.
There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are ways to manage it and reduce its impact on your daily activities. Some of the common approaches include sound therapy devices (including hearing aids), behavioural therapies, and medications. You may also benefit from joining a support group like this one, where you can connect with others who have similar experiences and learn from their coping strategies.
We hope you find this group helpful and supportive. Feel free to introduce yourself, share your story, ask questions, or offer advice. We are here to listen and support each other. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. We are glad you joined us!
