UNISON Foyle health branch condemns the cuts made in cleaning services and support services in the Western trust.

Cutting cleaning hours is cutting corners when it comes to cleanliness throughout the hospital.
Cutting the additional hours/pay of the lowest paid will not achieve any significant savings.

In addition to this, UNISON will be challenging the trust on behalf of staff to guarantee staff are being paid correctly and also receiving their correct annual leave entitlement in accordance with staffs terms and conditions.

We encourage all staff to back UNISON in our aims and objectives. What's happening to our health and social care services is nothing short of a disgrace. UNISON is ready to face this challenge head-on. But it will need all staff to take part. We have faith that you will join us!

The Home Office proposals for changes to the UK’s immigration settlement policy are devastating for a number of UNISON members who have come here to work on the understanding they could settle after 5 years.

The Home Office has put out an ‘Earned Settlement Consultation’ on these proposals seeking views to shape their proposed reforms – we urge everyone to respond to the consultation before the closing date on 12th February.

You can find a link to the consultation and the UNISON consultation response guidance here👇

📣HAVE YOUR SAY!📣
Safe Journeys: Women and Girls is a listening-led initiative helping women and girls feel safer and see taxis as the safest option for getting home and they want to hear from you!

Join in on the Listening Session:
📅Thursday 29 January 2026
🕙10:00am – 1:00pm
📍First Floor, Rath Mór Centre, Creggan

This session will be hosted by North West Taxi Proprietors and YesLaad

What is Safe Journeys?
Safe Journeys is a prevention-led project focused on understanding how women and girls experience safety when travelling, particularly when using taxis and travelling at night. The project begins by listening to lived experience and using that insight to inform practical, proportionate improvements.

Why this work matters:
Concerns about personal safety influence how many women and girls choose to travel, especially at night. Taxis often operate at times when vulnerability can be higher. This project explores how the taxi industry can positively support confidence and safety.

Programme context:
Safe Journeys: Women and Girls is supported through the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Change Fund and delivered within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.

*Please note we are not organisers of the event, but we would like our members to take part and contribute to an important topic.

If you would like to attend on behalf of FWIN, please let us know by calling 028 7126 6291 or sending an email to EVAWG@fwin.org.uk.
