JDRF Virtual Event - Digital Diabetes

Shared on behalf of JDRF

This event itself has been carefully put together to help all living with T1D to understand more about diabetes technologies. It's not just the companies showing their pieces of technology but an event full of the connecting bits of information that does cause overwhelm in making a decision.

All about Smart Pens - Tom Crabtree

How the new NICE guidelines are being rolled out across the UK in an interview with the DTN - Alistair Lumb & Lesley Jordan

The importance of sharing your data - for the person with T1D, for clinic and for research - Melissa Holloway

Technology Choices (HOW to choose diabetes technologies that suit you) - Caroline Byrne, DSN

A look at new technologies coming in the near future - Nerdabetic

And a panel of people with T1D and parents of children with T1D to highlight the difference that the different types of technologies they have experienced have improved their quality of life - from just a Libre, to CGM and Smart Pens and right up to Hybrid Closed Loop.

The event will be recorded too and available to watch if people can't make it on Saturday.

Here's a link to register:

JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity. We fund research to cure, treat and prevent type 1. We work with government, academia and industry to accelerate research in the UK and within healthcare policy to ensure that the outcomes of research are delivered to people with type 1 in the UK.

jdrf.org.uk

I'm really looking forward to this as I know it will help support so many people and families and as it's recorded it will help us here in JDRF point to it on YouTube when people send us in enquiries and you too in clinic too hopefully as you get similar questions. And of course, people can register and get a link to the recording if they can't attend on Saturday too!

Best wishes,

We understand lots of you may be feeling anxious about coronavirus restrictions lifting in England today.

While some are welcoming this shift towards normality, we’re concerned the guidance for clinically extremely vulnerable people - many of whom have diabetes alongside other serious conditions - offers little protection and is putting pressure on individuals to continue making difficult decisions daily to keep themselves safe.

Vaccines are still the best way for you to protect yourself from the virus, so we encourage you to ensure you’re fully vaccinated if you’re eligible. And while masks are no longer obligatory in many public spaces, we hope the majority of people will still opt to wear theirs to protect themselves and others at risk.

Our CEO, Chris Askew CBE, published a letter in The Guardian on Friday calling on the Government to protect the clinically vulnerable beyond ‘freedom day’.
