I am Nella and I’m the founder of The Lean Cook and more recently Nella Nutrition.
I’ve always loved to cook and could be found in the kitchen from a very young age. I’m from an Italian family and food is almost sacred to us with many family occasions taking place around the dining table. It’s hard not to love food!
After my children were born in 2015 I decided that it was about time that I started to look after my body as it delivered 2 healthy baby boys even though I was in my forties. It took me a while to decide how exactly I was going to make good on this promise, but I was adamant that whatever I was going to do would have to involve eating real food if I was to stand a chance of sticking with it.
My passion for nutrition was ignited when I embarked on my very own transformation taking my husband along for the ride – we’re half the people we used to be!
Having a young family in my 40's made me realise that I needed to change my lifestyle, get fitter and lose weight in order to be able to keep up with my sons. As the children grow-up I felt it important that exercise was a regular occurrence in our home and the children think nothing of seeing us taking it in turns to exercise, getting fitter and stronger.
I've always enjoyed cooking and by accident I realised that I could make healthy versions of everyday foods that I loved to eat while I was on my own personal journey to improved health and weight loss. This kind of diet is one that agrees with me and lets me enjoy foods I love without feeling left out at the dinner table.
Like many I started blogging and sharing recipes online to help keep me motivated and very soon I realised that I wasn't the only one who wanted to make a positive change to their health and fitness without resorting to eating 'diet food', and so The Lean Cook website and app came to be.
It’s full of simple to make healthy recipes that you’ll want to eat again and again. Each recipe can be tailored to your nutritional needs simply and easily within the app.
At the same time in my spare time I started a closed Facebook community group which has grown to over 10,000 members in 2 years. Here I started sharing my recipes and tips, offering support and motivation, and while I don't provide personalised nutrition advice here, it's a private place where you can connect with other likeminded individuals who are looking to make improvements to their own health and fitness.
When it comes to nutrition there's lots of mis-information out there so I decided to study nutrition with the best and world-renowned nutrition educators in the industry, MNU.
I am a busy working mum and I understand how important it is to develop habits and routines that fit into your lifestyle and family. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to achieve it. Now I can help you reach your goal in a way that suits your lifestyle.
I will continue to share any new Lean Recipes on both my website and in my app (the app will always have everything!) and I hope they help you with your own personal journey to a leaner life.
