Eye Can is coming to Swindon this April

On Thursday 23 April, Eye Can returns to Swindon with a free exhibition for blind and partially sighted people, their families, and anyone supporting someone with sight loss. The event will take place at STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway, Fire Fly Avenue, Swindon, SN2 2EY.

Eye Can brings together a range of exhibitors all in one place, showcasing equipment, technology and services that can support everyday life with sight loss. It’s a friendly, relaxed event where you can explore what’s available, ask questions, and find out what support is available locally. There will also be short talks running during the day, with more details to be shared soon.

It’s a good opportunity whether you’re newly adjusting to sight loss, have been blind or partially sighted for some time, or are supporting a family member or friend.

Save the date for now, we’ll be sharing more information closer to the event.

“The social side, personally, I found invaluable.”

One of the people we support shares why being part of a social group has meant so much to him.

Many people tell us that one of the hardest parts of sight loss is feeling that others don’t fully understand what you’re going through. Our social groups offer a relaxed, welcoming space to talk things through with people who have their own lived experience of sight loss.

Sometimes it’s not about advice or solutions. It’s about realising you’re not on your own, and that others are dealing with similar things.

If you or someone you care for is experiencing sight loss, our social groups are open to blind and partially sighted people across Wiltshire. Find out more about groups near you on our website or get in touch with the Wiltshire Sight team on 01380 723682.

Love online selling? Help your local sight loss charity from our Devizes office

We’re looking for a Volunteer Online Sales Assistant to help raise vital funds to support blind and partially sighted people across Wiltshire.

You’d be playing a behind-the-scenes role based at our Devizes office, supporting our charity shops by helping sort, list and send out donated items so they can raise as much as possible for our work. This role involves photographing and listing items on platforms such as eBay or Vinted, packing and posting sold items, and helping turn donations into much needed income for Wiltshire Sight.

You don’t need to do everything – if you’re happy helping with just one part, such as photographing items or packing orders, that would still make a real difference.

You might enjoy this role if you’re confident using online platforms, have a creative eye for photography, or would simply like a few hours in a friendly office environment. Full training and ongoing support are provided, and hours are flexible.

To find out more or apply, please contact us at volunteering@wiltshiresight.org or call 01380 723 682.

Make a difference with every sale.

“I have realised that I am not on my own. There are people who understand and want to help.”

That sense of not being alone has shaped so much of our work this year across Wiltshire and Swindon.

Looking ahead to the year to come, our local hubs will continue to offer information and advice, digital skills support and social groups.
We’re also looking ahead to Eye Can Swindon, taking place on Thursday 23 April 2026 at STEAM Museum in Swindon, bringing together services, technology and support under one roof. Eye Can Gloucester will also take place in October 2026.
And our Moving Forward Course returns in February, with three friendly online sessions for anyone adjusting to changes in their sight.

Alongside this, our other services continue throughout the year, including our Audio CD Library, monthly newsletters and twice yearly magazine. We’ll also be reviewing feedback from our latest survey to help shape our services and make sure we’re responding to what people tell us matters most.

Your local Wiltshire Sight team is here to support you in the new year. We reopen on Friday 2 January.

Everyday life can feel harder when your sight changes. That’s why our local support focuses on practical help, clear information, and taking things at your pace.

From our latest impact report, 90% of people told us they felt better able to manage day to day after working with Wiltshire Sight.

Support from our team here in Wiltshire can make a real difference. If you or a family member would like to know what support is available locally, you can contact us on 01380 723682.

Our Devizes shop has unveiled a beautiful new Christmas window, now on display at 36 The Market Place, Devizes, SN10 1JG.

This year’s scene has been lovingly handmade by our shop manager, who has brought back two familiar favourites. Harry Potter Mouse has turned his skills to interior decorating and Oliver Mouse has taken up baking, joining forces to create a warm and charming gingerbread-themed display.

If you are passing through Devizes over the winter, do take a moment to enjoy the window. And if you are looking for thoughtful pre loved gifts or decorations, our shop team will be happy to welcome you in. Every purchase helps us continue our work with blind and partially sighted people across Wiltshire.

If Devizes isn’t your nearest shop, you can also find us in Salisbury at 23 Catherine Street, SP1 2DQ, and in Trowbridge at 27B Fore Street, BA14 8EW.
