It allows anyone with a baby bump the opportunity to meet others, in a friendly and informal setting, while learning a little something about pregnancy, birth and babies along the way. Each week we have a different topic and sometimes this includes a special guest. However, please don't feel that is the only subject you can discuss during our meetings. Our discussions frequently go off on a tangen

t and our weekly topics are merely starting points. You can choose to come to every meeting or just to those that are of particular interest to you. The meetings are primarily for those who actually pregnant, but if you feel a bit too nervous to attend on your own, then do bring your partner, family member or friend along. North Wiltshire HomeBirthers is a group for anyone in North Wiltshire who is interested in home birth, whether you have had a home birth, are hoping to have one or are just considering having one.

Their next meet up is on Tuesday 22nd July, in Swindon. The meet up is free to attend, and open to anyone who, lives in the North of Wiltshire and, has an interest in home birth. Our topics for the coming weeks are caesarean birth, birth physiology and sleep:

10th July - Whether you are planning a caesarean, considering one or trying to avoid one, with around half of all births locally being caesarean, it is a procedure that all expectant parents should something bit about. Find out what actually happens during a caesarean and just what your options are.

17th July - There are lots of things that can affect labour and birth. But do you know what happens during a normal birth, if nature is allowed to take its course? Find out how our environment, and what we do during labour affects how things progress, and what can we do to try and optimise the natural birth process.

24th July - Sleep deprivation is something many expectant parents dread. Can it be avoided? What is a normal number of night wakings for a baby? How often and for how long should they nap during the day? Where should baby sleep? In their own room or in their parents' room? In a Moses basket, in a cot or in their parents' bed? How can parents lower the risk of SIDS? If parents want their baby to sleep in their bed, how can they make it as safe as possible?

Thank you very much to Siân, of The Melksham Movement Clinic, for chatting to the expectant parents, who attended last night's session, about osteopathy. I know I leared a few things about osteopathy, which I didn't know before :-)

Our next session is Optimum Bumps does osteopathy. We will be joined by osteopath Sian, of The Melksham Movement Clinic.

The Melksham Movement Clinic provides osteopathic treatment, for the whole family. Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy, aiming to promote healing and reduce pain within the body. Sian is a qualified paediatric osteopath, treating from newborn through to adulthood. She has specialist experience in treating expectant mothers, for pain during pregnancy and treating them in preparation for birth. And Sian is currently pregnant herself :-)

Our topic for tomorrow's session is hospital bags. What should you pack in your hospital bag? Can you take more than one bag? Do you really need disposable knickers? What should you take in the way of snacks? Will you need cash? Should you take my own birth ball? Or your own pillows? What toiletries should you take?
Even if you're planning a home birth, it's a good idea to have all your 'birthy stuff' kept in one easy to access place.

Although the sessions are free to attend, you do need to book your place, as spaces are limited.

I have just added sessions on caesarean birth and slings, for the first two weeks of July. Booking for these will open on 20th June.
