Wren Pottery Part time potter based in Devon.

25/10/2025

I had an idea for this reel a few weeks ago as people often ask me how much time I manage to spend on pottery each week and half term can be up and down.

Extra childcare from family can mean more time in the studio but time off work with the kids means no studio time.

We have a two week autumn half term, so let me know if you'd like me to share how next week goes...!

I don't know about you but I always think that festive shopping is best started in autumn and although my website and etsy are open 24/7 I know that lots of you want to hold ceramics before committing to buying them.

That is why I will be at a few markets over the festive period, across south Devon to make it easy for you to come and see my pots in person.

There will probably be some other opportunities to buy my pots in person but these are the events at which you will find me with my pots!

I'd love to know which one you'll be at. I can't wait to meet some new customers but it's always lovely seeing those of you that follow me on here too.

I NEED YOUR HELP!

I have some butter dishes to glaze and need to know which glazes to use...

Splatter, blue (never done a blue one) or something different??

Please comment below with the colour you like best or want to see. I've included a couple of pics featuring my different glazes - the pale turquoise or the deeper sea green have both graced butter dishes before.

Let me know ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

A few bits from September, the month where I refound my potting mojo and enthusiasm.

I'm bursting to get back into the studio and have so much I want to make, I will share my upcoming makes with you.

The final image is definitely not pottery related, but put a big smile on my face!

Hello! After an unintentional break I'm easing myself back into Instagram.

Had a lovely few weeks of not really being on my phone, including failing to take many photos but here are a few snapshots including....

โ˜€๏ธlots of family time, usually with a sea view
โ˜€๏ธnot enough studio time, but making the most of it when there
โ˜€๏ธcelebrated reading more books than previous years (53 books down this year) with a haul at
โ˜€๏ธa trip to ikea to help me organise my potting tools
โ˜€๏ธall of the beach days, come rain or shine!

What have you been up to this summer? The holidays flew past and this year I found myself gutted when they came to and end, I wanted more time with my crew.

Now to try and settle back into a routine again. Happy Thursday ๐Ÿฉท

I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone this summer and doing markets that are both a little bit different and a bit further afield.

First you will find me at Grill on the Green, Saturday 9th August 3-9pm in Yealmpton.

Then on Saturday 4th September I will be at .cafe.plymouth 10-4 as part of their monthly makers market.

I'm hoping to meet new people but if would also be great to see some familiar faces, so do pop along if you're free!

On Monday morning I got back in the studio, it has been a month (!) and I was very glad to sit at the wheel with no deadlines, no time pressure, no expectations and just throw.

And throw I did, for two hours. All of the trimming and finishing touches were done on Tuesday evening and Thursday morning.

That's the thing with pottery. it's not just about finding time to get on the wheel, but also making sure that you have time to do the follow up work otherwise your pots will end up in the reclaim (3 of these did and many more from earlier this year!).

We have a poorly 5yo in the house this weekend and it's the start of summer holidays, so I'm not sure when I'll next get in the studio, but I'll be back soon...

PRODUCT STORY

I never intended to make butter dishes. I don't even like butter! However, at the start of 2024, my husband asked me to make him one for his birthday. I was thrilled that he asked me to create something for him, so I set to work.

I knew I wanted a rounded dome and an organic handle but wasn't quite sure how to get there. I threw 3 domes and 3 plates to get the right ones that worked together. I added seaglass to the handle to make it special, (but I would not do this for ones I sell as seaglass is porous).

Swipe to the last few images to see his one-off butter dish!

In summer last year I decided to make some for our shop. Out of three, two survived (see image 3 for the casulty), and they both sold! I have made two more since and only have one left in stock, so I'm currently making more.

They are my product with the highest price point, which is a reflection of the amount of time, resources, and skill that goes into making them.

I'm getting better all the time. They are mostly enjoyable to make, and I get a huge deal of satisfaction from them turning out as good as I could hope.

What are your thoughts?! Any colours you'd like to see them in? So far I've only made them in greens.
