North Kirklees Maternity Voices Partnership MVP

North Kirklees Maternity Voices Partnership MVP We want to hear about your experiences so we can work to improve the local maternity services.

The Maternity Voices Partnership, or MVP, is for anyone living in North Kirklees who is pregnant, has recently given birth, or is the partner of someone who is. The North Kirklees MVP is a working group, welcoming women, birthing people and their families, as well as commissioners and healthcare staff including maternity staff, and staff from other organisations to work together to ensure that maternity services are as good as they can be for all of us living in North Kirklees. We are really fortunate to have representatives on the MVP from organisations including health and maternity services, public health, Auntie Pam's, Thriving Kirklees (0-19 service), Locala, Healthwatch, CCG's and more. We meet regularly, providing up to date information on services available to local families, as well as listening to local voices to help facilitate change and development across all of these services. We especially want to hear from people who have used these services, as it's only through hearing real experiences that we can ensure that services continue to improve for everybody who will need them in the future. If you would like any more information or would like to get involved please message us - we'd love to hear from you.

💉 Our maternity service offers both drop-in and bookable sessions for Pertussis and RSV vaccinations throughout the year, plus the Flu vaccination from October to March, conveniently available in our hospital antenatal clinics.

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy is a safe and effective way to help protect both you and your baby from serious illness. Vaccines such as Pertussis (whooping cough) and RSV provide your baby with vital protection in their first weeks of life, when they are most vulnerable.

📌 Please note: the clinic at Pontefract Hospital on Monday 22 September will not be running.

✅ To book an appointment, please speak to your community midwife, or drop in at one of the following clinics as shown below.

When you find out you are pregnant, you can refer yourself for NHS pregnancy care so you start care with a midwife right away.

Once you sign up online, the maternity team will contact you to book your first appointment with a midwife.

You should do this by the 10th week of pregnancy, if possible, but it’s never too late to start. If you're over 10 weeks, refer yourself as soon as you can.

We’re asking for feedback today about the “MY Choices” personalised care booklet - this is the second of three posts!

How could the booklet be improved?

For example, some people have told us they would like more information about how to look around the birth centres, or information about which contact number to ring for different reasons. We’d love to hear your suggestions!

Tell us in the comments or send us a message. One more post to come!

We need your feedback!
In December MY Maternity & Neonatal launched new personalised care plan booklets called “MY Choices for pregnancy, birth and beyond”, a physical paper booklet about your pregnancy and birth that you can fill in and bring to appointments.

Have you seen one? If you have booked in since December for antenatal care, you should have one.

We’re going to post three questions today about these booklets and the first is: What do you like about it? Tell us in the comments below or send a message to our inbox.
