Important Update:
- Our Premises at Union Bank -
Union Bank has now been open for 10 years and has welcomed thousands of people into a safe and supportive space to begin and sustain their recovery. It holds a special place in the story of our recovery community and in the lives of many people across Kirklees.
We now need to look ahead to our next steps, as our landlord has formally issued notice for us to leave the Union Bank building by 30 June 2026. This means that we will be moving to a new building to continue the important work that has grown and developed here. We recognise that news like this can feel unsettling. However, this notice also gives us valuable time to plan carefully and ensure that our services continue with as little disruption as possible.
- What We’re Doing Now -
We have identified a fantastic new building that is newer and larger than Union Bank, and better suited to our future needs. This space would allow us to grow, improve facilities, and create an environment that fully supports recovery, connection and wellbeing.
Our Facilities team are now working on the details of the new lease and development plans, but we recognise this is a very short timescale. While the new building already meets many of our requirements, it will need a purpose‑built catering kitchen, and there may be local authority approvals required. These processes can take time, and we believe it is important to get this right rather than rush and risk compromising the quality of the space.
- If There Is a Period Between Buildings -
If there is any time when we are between buildings, recovery will not stop. We will take “Recovery on Tour”. This means:
- Recovery activities will continue within the community
- We will work closely with trusted local partners who can provide buildings and spaces
- Services, groups and support will be delivered across familiar and accessible locations in Huddersfield
- In Summary -
- Recovery services will continue throughout
- There will be no sudden changes—everything will be planned and clearly communicated
- This move allows us to create a stronger, better space for the future
We understand that buildings are far more than bricks and mortar. They are places of safety, routine, friendship and healing. Protecting that sense of belonging is at the heart of every decision we are making. We will share further details about our farewell to Union Bank and the launch of our new building as soon as these are confirmed.
