A big thank you to Mike who brought Sydney the therapy dog in to meet residents today. Sydney was an instant hit with his wonderfully calming presence and star quality! Its no wonder we saw so many smiles today. Having already been asked 'When can I see him again?' we are so pleased he will be visiting us fortnightly.

To find out more about Therapy Dogs Nationwide or make a donation please see their website. You'll also find information about volunteering with your dog. Alternatively, please get in touch if you'd like to find out more about about volunteering with your pet at Oxford Manor Care Home. We'd love to hear from you.

We've been getting creative in different ways this week. Creating an Elvis scrapbook brought back lots of memories, got us tapping our feet to some old favourites and chatting with new friends.

Today we relaxed while choosing and arranging pictures to make mood boards. Residents got satisfaction from their completed pieces and enjoyed the process of making something whatever their ability.

A very very happy birthday to Andy 🎉 We are so pleased you enjoyed the finer things in life today included good food, friendship and even a little sunshine. Thanks again to Chef for a delicious birthday cake too!

After a quiz this morning, armed with balloons, we got moving to music. Our sensory balloons filled with different textures got plenty of smiles too and helped with our dexterity. Add a quick game of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, some time in the garden and a Friday night comedy and it's been a good day all round!

It would have been Neil Armstrong's birthday this week. We took the opportunity to share memories of the moon landings and relax listening to music inspired by space. Think Rocket Man, Fly me to the Moon, Life on Mars and Holst's Planets for starters. Residents even got creative and painted our own planets in the night sky! ⭐

A very happy birthday to our resident Peter 🥳. We hope he enjoyed spending time with family today and course some of chef's delicious chocolate birthday cake!

There's been something for everyone today. We've enjoyed a quiz, pampering from our lovely hairdresser Laura, watched women's cricket and a WW2 codebreaker film, shaken instruments to some familiar tunes, remembered soap operas and enjoyed the countryside around the home on our nature walk in the sunshine. 🌞

Another wet day forecast for tomorrow! We don't mind. We've used rainy days this week to spend time together enjoying games, puzzles and quizzes in addition to our weekly book and film clubs, art and musical memories sessions. Nothing quite beat meeting a kitten for our animal lovers though!

Congratulations to the England team for their win this evening against Spain. We were on the edge of our seats!

Good thing it's been a relaxing week otherwise. We've enjoyed some music classics, quizzes, time in the garden, book club, memory lane sessions, games and crafts to name just a few. Some lovely pictures of the hares of Harwell characters we made. Maybe next time we'll make lionesses in honour of the women's team !

There are lots of opportunities for art and craft here at Oxford Manor. We know they bring a wide range of physical, emotional and cognitive benefits to residents.

In addition to our usual arts and crafts, the colouring function of our new digital table has been really popular over the past week. It's an easily accessible and relaxing way to get creative. Residents have been working together and getting satisfaction from finishing their pieces. Some of our visitors have also enjoyed making colourful creations!
