Why mum and baby yoga?
Mum and baby yoga is the perfect place for a gentle introduction returning to yoga and fitness after birth and bonding with your baby.
My mum and baby class is a safe space for all women and babies creating a zero judgement zone. We are all in this together. Taking your time physically and emotionally is ESSENTIAL after birth as your body needs time to heal and recover. This slow introduction aims to assist our bodies in gradually building muscle tone in the pelvic floor and core muscles. Helping us to sneeze again without the dreaded fear of... you know what I mean. We do yoga with baby, having them lying watch us, leaning on us and holding them.
There are three main parts to mum and baby yoga I like to focus on.
1 - Mum. Mum and baby yoga is about you, mum. Connecting with yourself again and moving in a way that feels good and comfortable. Getting to know your postpartum body with grace and patience.
2 - Bonding. Bonding with our babies is something we all want and crave for, sharing this space is a wonderful place for this to build. Having a busy schedule can make bonding slightly more difficult. Taking a pause, just for an hour, can do tremendous things for the bond you share with your little one.
3 - Community. For new mums, community is incredibly important. Sharing space with like-minded women in a similar situation will understand your position the most. Go for a coffee after class, create WhatsApp groups and make life long friends.
I myself am a new mum. My little one is currently 5 months old and I know how FUN postpartum is but also the challenges we face. Yoga has always helped my headspace, especially since our birth, birth of baby and of new mother. My little one will be there with me in classes so we get some bonding time too, plus she makes a great prop. 😂
Anyone is welcome to join from 6 weeks vaginal birth and 8 weeks abdominal birth (C-section) as long as you have had the all clear from your GP until little one turns 1 years old (or walking).
