🌿 Direct Cremations – What the Adverts Don’t Always Tell You 🌿

You’ve probably seen the ads—but here’s what they don’t always tell you.

These glossy TV commercials often feature soft music, smiling actors, and promises of ease and affordability. But behind the scripted lines and too-good-to-be-true prices, there are some important details that often get left out:

💬 Call centres, not local care
Many of the big-name providers operate from national call centres. It can be difficult to speak to the same person twice, and that personal, supportive touch is often missing.

🚚 Long journeys you weren’t told about
Your loved one’s final journey may involve being transported hundreds of miles to a central crematorium. This isn’t always made clear at the start.

🕰️ Uncertain timing
Some companies don’t collect your loved one right away. In some cases, they may remain in a hospital or mortuary for several weeks before anything happens.

🌱 The hidden environmental impact
Long-distance transportation can have a greater carbon footprint than the cremation itself—something rarely mentioned in the small print.

💡 Extra charges that aren’t in the advert
The headline price might not include everything. Additional fees for collecting ashes, completing paperwork, or out-of-hours services often come later.

Direct cremation can be the right choice—but it should still come with dignity, clarity, and care.

Before choosing, it’s worth asking:
✅ Where will the cremation actually take place?
✅ Will I speak to the same person throughout?
✅ Are all the costs included and explained?
✅ When will my loved one be collected and cremated?
✅ How and when will ashes be returned?
✅ What is the environmental impact of long-distance transport?

At Parkman Funeral Home, we don’t do gimmicks, scripts, or call centres. Just real care from real people, with clear answers and honest prices.

Because if something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

❤️ If you ever want advice or simply someone to talk things through with, we’re here to help.

Funeral Myth 4:

“If the funeral’s in a church, it won’t be about the person — it’ll just be religious.”

Truth: A church funeral may include some elements of faith — but that doesn’t mean it can’t be personal, heartfelt, and centred on the life that’s been lived.

Most ministers today work closely with families to get the tone right. That might include music, stories, family tributes, and quiet moments that truly reflect the person.

It doesn’t have to be sombre, and it doesn’t have to feel like a sermon. Wherever the service takes place, it should always feel like them.

🕯️ Funeral Myths – Part 3: “You never know if you’re getting your loved one’s ashes back.”

MYTH:
“You can’t be sure the ashes you get are really your loved one’s—they could be anyone’s!”

TRUTH:
This is one of the most common fears — but it’s completely unfounded.

✔️ Only one coffin fits inside the cremator at a time — it’s physically and legally impossible to cremate more than one person together.
✔️ Each person is assigned a unique identity tag that stays with them throughout.
✔️ A full record is kept at every step, ensuring you receive the correct ashes — and only theirs.

📍 Want to see for yourself?
Cardiff & Glamorgan Crematorium in Barry holds an open day most summers, where the public is invited to see behind the scenes. It’s an open and honest way to understand what really happens — and it’s incredibly reassuring.

At Parkman Funeral Home, we believe in clarity, care, and compassion at every stage. If you have questions, just ask. No myths. Just truth.

🕊️ Funeral Myths: Part Two 🕊️
“Coffins and handles are reused” – FALSE.

Let’s clear this one up: Coffins and their fittings are never reused, whether it’s for burial or cremation.

At Parkman Funeral Home, we ensure every coffin is treated with dignity and respect. Once sealed, it stays that way – nothing is removed or recycled. Handles and nameplates are cremated or buried with the coffin, just as intended.

Your loved one’s care is our top priority – always.

Funeral Myths: Part One

💬 “We were told we couldn’t carry Mum’s coffin… something to do with health and safety.”

We hear this often. And it’s simply not true.

If it’s important to you to carry a loved one on their final journey, you absolutely can. Family members and close friends can be bearers — and many find it a deeply moving part of the farewell.

This applies whether the funeral is a burial or a cremation. What matters is that the goodbye feels right for you.

We’ll always be there to guide you, quietly and respectfully, making sure you feel safe and supported every step of the way.

At Parkman Funeral Home, we believe in honouring your wishes — not hiding behind myths.

If you’re ever unsure about what’s possible, just ask. We’ll always give you the honest answer.

💙 Please, Just a Moment of Respect 💙

When a hearse passes by, it carries more than a person — it carries a lifetime of memories, love, and the grief of those left behind.

For the family walking or driving behind, this is one of the hardest days of their lives.

Please don’t overtake.
Not because you have to, but because it’s the decent, human thing to do.

There’s no rush worth more than someone’s final journey.
A few quiet moments of patience can offer a powerful message: “Your loss matters. We see you. We care.”

Kindness costs nothing, but it means everything.

Parkman Funeral Home
Every life deserves a dignified farewell.
