Coughs and colds are common at this time of year. There's usually no need to see a GP if you have a cough, it will usually clear up on its own within 3 to 4 weeks.

However, see a GP if:
➡️ you have had a cough for more than 3 weeks (persistent cough)
➡️ you're losing weight for no reason
➡️ you have a weakened immune system – for example, because of chemotherapy or diabetes

We are seeing increased cases of respiratory illness which is impacting on our hospitals . To protect vulnerable patients and staff, we are advising that you only visit our sites or any relatives if it is essential and you are free of any signs or symptoms of coughing, spluttering , wheezing or sneezing.
