Our February 𝘚𝘛𝘖𝘙𝘌𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘚𝘌 𝘠𝘖𝘎𝘈 & 𝘉𝘙𝘌𝘈𝘒𝘍𝘈𝘚𝘛 are happening this Sunday, February, 26th at The STOREHOUSE

🪷The theme for the practice is 𝘐𝘕𝘞𝘈𝘙𝘋 𝘎𝘈𝘡𝘌 (Umpada Drishti) Flow: Experiencing what Yoga feels like rather than what it looks like.

🧘🏻‍♀️We meet on a last Sunday of each month for a 2 hour Yoga Practice and cakes/hot beverages and catch up after!

🍂🧘🏻‍♀️Hello lovely people! Our Autumn Block of Yin Yoga & Mindfulness restarts on Monday the 24th from Zoom (8:30-9:30pm)

🧘🏻‍♀️Those new to the practice and not familiar with what I do - here’s a bit of background on my Yin Journey and trainings related to Yin

�✨Strappy Yin Workshop with Jo Phee - 2022

✨I also did a Myofascial Release (MFR) training with Jill Miller from YogaTuneup and Myofascial Release for Yoga Teachers training with Rachel Land in 2019 as well.

🎾 We are reintroducing a bit of MFR into Yin Practices during this block: not a full practice, but therapy balls will be making an appearance now and then!

☯️Every Yin needs its Yang.. But having a good balance between the two is very important.

Listen to your body and if it’s screaming for some rest - give in and enjoy the stillness.. But we equally can’t ever deny the importance of stronger practices for all the good reasons.. It’s all about a healthy balance!

🤸🏻‍♀️Western Yoga practice is heavily Yang dominant: movement, pace, sweat, & flow. Physical exercise is Yang, mindfulness and stillness is Yin. They are like two sides of the same coin – one always complimenting the other one. Muscles are yang, connective tissues is Yin… muscles do not exist without connective soft tissue; and we would not be able to exist having no muscles. Every Yin practice has a bit of Yang in it.. we can’t just sit still and meditate fo a long period of time if our body is weak. We strengthen the body with Yang practices to be able to sit still during our meditation.

Both are vital for having a healthy body and mind!

💫Yin yoga & Chinese Meridian Theory in a nutshell💫

Even if it’s not something you choose to recognise as a real thing, here’s a bit of information on the meridians.

🍁🍃Each season is dominated by a certain pair of meridians (visit our website to read on them). We structure most of our Yin & Mindfulness sessions around the seasons and their meridians.

Here we go:

✨Yin Yoga is deeply connected with the Chinese Meridian theory (these meridians flow through all tissues and bones. The energy – chi – flows via these meridians and its strength and flow is vital for a healthy balance of body and mind. If the energy is stagnant and the meridians are blocked it can cause an illness or emotional imbalance. The energy then needs to be redirected to allow for a smooth flow of chi throughout the body. To get it all back on track we use acupuncture, physical practice, breath work and a focused mind. The last three methods can be achieved through a balanced yoga practice (Powers, S. 2008). We have Yin and yang organs and they all correspond to five elements: fire, water, wood, metal, and earth. This is a very concise description of how it works and throughout our time together I will talk a bit more about the organs we are targeting and the emotional and physical elements of each posture.

✨Chinese medicine has been recognised as a viable science (not sure if it can be called science but let’s just assume it can be). Acupuncture is a well recognised treatment worldwide, as well as reflexology. Our body is a map of thousands of acupuncture or trigger points each positioned on various meridians. Dr Motoyama, with the help of modern electronic instruments, has been documenting the existence of a system of energy channels in the body. Dr Motoyama has demonstrated that the energy flows through water-rich channels in the connective tissues, which could also be called meridians (Grilley, P). It is all very fascinating and it might be a little bit of a woo woo information for some, but if you have a curious and open mind I think it might very well be of some interest to many.

🍁I am excited about our Autumn Yin Block that’s starting on the 24th of October on Zoom!

But before we start, do you know what Yin Yoga is?

✨In a nutshell, Yin Yoga is a relaxing and mindful, yet effective and releasing practice that involves holding postures from 3 to 5 (and longer) minutes.

💫Benefits of Yin Yoga are numerous and include improvement of flexibility, release, reduction of stress, tension, anxiety, better sleep and clearer mind.

The main principles of Yin Yoga are:

1. Come into a pose to an appropriate depth (find the appropriate edge)

2. Resolve to stay still and soft (no muscular engagement)

3. Stay in a posture for some time

This weekend we are talking YIN.. Throughout the next couple of days I’ll be sharing with you various pieces of information and some practices to introduce you to this wonderful practice!

✨The reason we don’t just call it Yin is because we dedicate a considerable amount of time to the Mindfulness aspect of the practice so it wouldn’t be fair not to mention it here.

After not posting any food spam for ages, here’s another one for today 😁

🍄 Came back from a walk with yet another bunch of chanterelles and birch boletes!

🥗 Here’s my lunch: 26g of protein and 329 calories on this massive plate of food.

With some small changes you can substantially reduce the calories and up your veg intake.

🍝Gourgetti instead of pasta will save you hundreds of calories. Mushrooms have next to nothing calories, but if you make them with fried onions and creme fresh (low calorie of course 😀) or any other ingredients, they’ll make it into a quite filling meal!

I understand this might not be a traditional plate of Scottish food and many people do not pick anything except for chanterelles here, but if I’m alive and well after eating the amount of mushrooms of all varieties I do - you’ll all be just fine 🤣

And understandably gourgetti won’t be as filling as real pasta, but it’s a good 300-400 calorie and good 50-60g of carbs win over a plate of spaghetti.. I’m quite lucky that I’m not a pasta person and also gluten free, so I don’t miss it and I also quite weirdly like veggies 🥦😁!
