🌮🎊 Time to fiesta at Oaklands!

What a wonderful, vibrant evening we had at our Mexican Night. from a mouth watering Mexican buffet made by our amazing chef Inura to a fun filled quiz and margarita mocktails and drinks for all to enjoy. 🍹

There’s nothing better than seeing our community of residents, families and staff coming together to enjoy an evening of fun and laughter! 🤗

We certainly learnt a lot about Mexico and came away with newfound appreciation and knowledge of the country! What is your favourite Mexican dish? 👇

🐝 Happy Bee Day everyone!

What a fantastic day we’ve had, full of fun, educational and creative activities!

Our bee education started in the morning with our friend Stef who kindly came in and provided a thorough and engaging talk and quiz, we also indulged in warm honey milk drinks which were enjoyed by everyone 🥛😌

In the afternoon we were joined by the amazing Barefoot Beeman! Rob taught us so much about bees and what he gets up to working with swarms, caring for the bees and all the different wonderful things he gets up to at work! We even got to try on some of his bee suits! 🤺 And he kindly brought in some of his yummy honey for us to buy. 🍯

👩‍🎨 We then got crafty making hives out of paper cups!

Thanks to everyone who came and helped make the day happen!

🍉🍹It’s tipple time!

The mocktail of the week on the tipple trolley was our popular ‘wacky watermelon spritz’! Which went down a treat… refreshing and delicious ✨🦩

This Friday afternoon tradition is a favourite among residents, including Daphne! Seen here with her glass of fizz. A variety of drinks are offered, along with a selection of cheese and crackers and assorted crisps. 😋

✨ Our Employee of the Month of April is a fairly new member of the Oaklands team - Our wonderful administrator Gemma!

Gemma has only been with us a couple months, however she quickly became a reliable, hard working and proactive part of the team. She goes above and beyond in her work and always thinks of others and how best to manage situations.

It feels like Gemma has always been here and we are very thankful to have her on board! 🤗

🇬🇧🎈Bringing the community together just like they did in 1945. celebrating in the streets to honor all heroes. Dancing through the decades! 40s style, 2026 vibes. 🎤

We had a wonderul, joyful street party and sing along to celebrate VE Day this year at Oaklands. The sun shone and we enjoyed delicious treats prepared in the kithen whilst singing along to 40's classics. This was a truly special day, of comming together and remembrance.💜🪻

It is these events that highlight how lucky we are here at Oaklands, recognising how our community comes together in times of celebration and commemoration. ✨

Sometimes a trip out is more than just a day away, it’s a journey back in time… 🦒🦜

A wonderful minibus trip to Banham Zoo brought back fond memories for one resident - Cathy, who recalled her past experiences of living in Zambia. Cathy especially enjoyed the giraffe feeding experience, where she was able to get up close and personal with the wonderful animals!

The trip was a lovely day for all, filled with up-close animal encounters, sunny smiles and laughter. Bringing residents close to nature and creating new joyful memories. 💜

🌱😌 Our Therapeutic Sensory Garden

We are lucky to have two lovely courtyard gardens, which are set either side of our main lounge. One of these spaces is our sensory garden, full of plants to engage all the senses. Rabbits ear to feel, herbs and flowers to smell, wind chimes, grasses 🌾 and birds to listen to, fruits to taste, and a garden full of beautiful things to look at. The whole space is curated by our gardener Sandy to engage residents, reduce common challenging behavioural changes and connect to nature.

With the warmer days ahead, we are looking forward to utilising this space more, for easy access for residents to get a breath of fresh air, and to use it for different activities.

It is incredibly beneficial to have a secure, safe but engaging outdoor space for residents to use as they please. 🪴

🕰️Time capsule project success!

For the last few months at Oaklands, we have been undergoing a time capsule project. We have really enjoyed getting to know various members of our local community. On Wednesday we welcomed Reverend Sue Auckland and Frances Cormack from Scole to chat to our residents about their experience growing up in Scole and watching it evolve over the years. 🏡

We have also spoken to other individuals from Scole such as Roella Trudgill and Dennis Noble (Old Scole Boys Club) as well as some children from Scole Primary School, and have compiled together some wonderful images, items and stories for the capsule. 🎞️

The time capsule will be buried in the grounds at Oaklands - to be opened in 50 years. We want to show what life is like here in the home now and provide some historical context for the home and village.

If you live locally or have a connection to Oaklands and wish to contribute something to this community project, we would love to hear from you! Maybe you have some photographs, artworks or memorabilia or a story 📚🤳you wish to include in the capsule or are just interested in what we have accumulated so far. Either way please do get in touch on 01379 740646 or email at oaklands.activities@kingsleyhealthcare.co.uk

✨The Time Capsule Ceremony will be at Oaklands on the 27th of May at 2:30pm this event will be open to the public and we would love to see you there.

🪏Recently in sensory gardening club, residents have been enjoying repotting various herbs, including, dill, parsley and coriander.🪴

It’s an exciting time of year, seeing all that the residents have grown from seed flourishing.

It’s now time to get our once seedlings from the greenhouse into the ground and watch them take root and grow! 👩‍🌾

50 years of love, laughter and adventures, celebrating at truly golden couple! 💍🥂

On the 24th of April, one of our wonderful residents John, and his lovely wife Ros, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. It was a privilege to hold a space for the pair both for their anniversary dinner and a joyous party with family and friends the next day.

💜 John and Ros have become a central part of the Oaklands community and we are so grateful for the joy and kindness they bring to the home.

A massive thanks to the amazing Sons of Mark who came to entertain the party and our residents and staff who all had the best time! 🎶 John has seen the band on quite a few occasions and has always praised them and enjoyed their shows. Music is a huge part of Johns life and he played the Bass Guitar in his own band - Otter, touring all over Norfolk.

Ros has expressed her thanks to the home for enabling them to do something that felt ‘normal’ with their family and friends and celebrate In a way that felt true to them.

A big cheers to an incredible milestone! ✨
