This beautiful snug was a lovely distraction to this deep stretch I’m trying to relax into…
This looks like it should be super comfortable. IT IS NOT.
I’m trying to correct some of the growing imbalances in my body and sitting this way around is both unfamiliar and scary to me. I sit right side down all the time, but left side down… 🤯.
When I try to relax into these positions I feel anxious about “getting stuck” which is painful. But the general day to day pain is horrible if I let it stiffen up… So, finding a place to read (distraction), in front of a beautiful fire (distraction), while I’m doing something I would already be doing (habit stacking), is a great way to relax further into this move. The arms of the chair were also great to help me lift and ease my way out of it!🙌
Do you have anxiety about certain exercises? If so, how do you overcome it?

🎙️ AWAKE FOR HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY 🎙️
In this episode we do a deep dive into the details of being awake during total hip replacement surgery. We learn about Emma’s story in the lead up to the surgery, what it was like during, and the recovery after.
🔹
Local anaesthetics rather than general, are becoming more common place for a multitude of reasons, so the hope is that this deep dive will answer many of the questions you might have, and feel better about understanding the process.
🔹
I can tell you from a personal perspective, that with this most likely in my future, that I felt significantly calmer about the thought of this for myself.
🔹
Thank you Emma so much, for your time, and being so open to discuss the details with us!

🎙️Proud to be a guest on the “Straight from the hip” Podcast! Thank you Pablo Castañeda - 🎙️
Show notes:
This week I speak with Laura Rutterford a physical therapist based in the United Kingdom.
This is a so-called crossover podcast, as she also has a podcast called Help for Hip Dysplasia, which I highly encourage you to check out.
Today, Laura shares her journey with hip dysplasia, which inspired her to become a physical therapist. This is not uncommon in the world of hip dysplasia; people who have been affected often become strong advocates.
We talk about her treatment approach and the importance of collaborative care.
We discussed screening programs and the inadequacy of many of these.
We consider the rationale and basis for physical therapy in helping patients with hip dysplasia.
She clarifies some misconceptions surrounding physical therapy.
We talk about an individualized approach but also standardizing treatment to have a greater reach worldwide.
We discuss potential areas for future research and improvement in the field and emerging trends.
AVAILABLE ON ALL PODCAST PLATFORMS - search “Straight from the hip”, or the link is on my linktr.ee on my profile. I’ll put the link on my story today too!

🎙️New Podcast Episode!🎙️
It is an absolute privilege to be able to talk with Mr John Clegg in this episode.
🔹
Mr Clegg is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in hips, and in particular hip dysplasia. He has produced research with Mr Nicholas Clarke and an incredible team, that has changed the screening programmes for babies in many countries, resulting in implementing the Graf Method, by Mr Reinhard Graf.
🔹
The statistics for "missed" cases in this research, and the countries that have this universal method of screening, is almost zero.
🔹
This research produced results that are incredibly hard to find fault with. In this discussion we discuss some of the reasons that it has unfortunately not been implemented in the UK as a universal screening tool, and why it is SO important to continue to raise awareness.
🔹
My hope is that the contents of this conversation will spark emotion, promote discussion, and add to the work of other advocates around the globe.
🔹
Please continue to ask questions, share your experiences, challenge the systems we live in, and speak up for the children that do not yet have their voice. The more awareness is raised, the more information we have to hand, the harder it is to deny these scans for the next generations.
