We’re delighted to be hosting our first ever Learning Disability Eye Screening Morning — a specially designed session to make diabetic eye screening easier, calmer, and more comfortable for people with learning disabilities.

🗓️ When: Friday 21st November 08:00am - 12:30pm
📍 Where: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

During the appointment, our friendly team will:
✅ Explain every step clearly and simply
✅ Allow extra time and breaks
✅ Use Easy Read materials and pictures
✅ Provide a calm, quiet environment
✅ Welcome family members and support workers

We’re delighted to share that our Diabetic Eye Screening team has been invited to showcase a special exhibition at this year’s Annual Members Meeting.

This event offers patients, the public, colleagues, and stakeholders the chance to learn more about the Trust’s work, performance, and priorities. It will also feature the formal presentation of DBTH’s 2024/25 Annual Report and Accounts, followed by an open discussion on our achievements, challenges, and plans for the future.

Our Failsafe & Engagement Lead, Jemima Beaumont will be on hand to talk about the recent national changes to screening, what they mean for our service and patients, and to highlight the work we’ve done over the past year to address health inequalities.

We’ll also be demonstrating our new Canon Xephilio OCT-R1 machine, which has recently been introduced into screening.

The meeting will take place today at 5.00pm in the Education Centre at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

We’re incredibly proud to share that our Failsafe & Engagement Lead, Jemima Beaumont alongside the team in Diabetic Eye Screening has been shortlisted for a "Health Inequality Champion" award at this year’s DBTH Star Awards! 🏆✨

This recognition celebrates the steps we’ve taken to make screening more accessible, inclusive, and equitable for everyone in our community. From targeted outreach to tailored support, our mission has always been to ensure no one is left behind when it comes to protecting their sight. 👁️💙

The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on Wednesday 6 November at the Doncaster Dome – but for now, we’re just honoured to be recognised among such inspiring people and projects across the Trust.

A pop-up diabetic eye screening clinic held at Bentley Pavilion has helped 36 local residents take an important step in protecting their vision, with 72 eyes successfully screened for diabetic retinopathy.

We are so pleased to announce that from the 15th of September, Doncaster & Bassetlaw Diabetic Eye Screening will be introducing OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) to all patients who are currently in the digital surveillance screening pathway.

👀OCT is a quick, painless procedure that gives us a more detailed view of the back of your eye.

✔️OCT provides more accurate results so that fewer patients will need to be unnecessarily referred to hospital eye services.

🔬OCT will be available at all screening locations, meaning patients won’t need to travel any further to have access to this amazing technology.

🚨 851 Missed Appointments This Month 🚨

This month alone, 851 people did not attend their diabetic eye screening appointments across Doncaster and Bassetlaw.

Each missed appointment is not just a lost opportunity to protect someone’s vision — it also places extra strain on NHS services and resources.

👁️ Diabetic eye screening is a vital part of diabetes care, helping to detect early signs of diabetic retinopathy before you notice any symptoms. Early detection can prevent vision loss and even blindness.

📅 If you’ve received an appointment and can't make it, please contact us to reschedule if you can't make it.

- Protect your eyesight

- Ensure timely treatment if needed

We’re so pleased to share that Tracy has recently qualified as a Screener/Photographer within our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme! 👏✨

Since joining the team in March 2023, Tracy has worked hard, studying towards her Level 3 Health Screener Diploma — and we’re so proud to see her now fully qualified. 🎓👁️

Tracy will be out and about performing Diabetic Eye Screening across Doncaster & Bassetlaw as well as surrounding areas, helping to protect vision and support our local community.

We’re delighted to announce that Karina has officially qualified as a Screener/Grader for our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme! 👏✨

Over the past two years, Karina has been working hard to complete her Level 3 Health Screener Diploma — and all that dedication has paid off!

Karina will continue to be out and about in the community performing diabetic eye screenings, but you’ll also now find her in our grading office, carefully assessing patient images and helping us deliver timely, accurate results to our patients. 🖥️👁️

We’re thrilled to announce that Michelle and Jenna, two of our fantastic team members, have recently qualified as Slit Lamp Examiners for our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme here in Doncaster! 👏✨

Over the past 12 months, they’ve been working hard, training alongside Ophthalmologists to master the highly specialised skill of performing Slit Lamp Examinations — an important test for closely checking for any signs of Diabetic Retinopathy. 👁️💡

You’ll now see Michelle and Jenna carrying out these specialist examinations across Doncaster & Bassetlaw, while continuing their vital work grading patient images to help protect vision and deliver timely results.

A huge well done to both of you 🌟👏

👁️✨ DIABETIC EYE SCREENING SUCCESS! ✨👁️

Today we held a special diabetic eye screening clinic at Bentley Pavilion — this project was aimed at people who usually dont attend for their annual screening. We're thrilled to say that 36 people attended, with 72 eyes successfully screened for diabetic retinopathy. 👀🔬

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and to our fantastic team who made it all happen. These quick, painless screenings are vital in protecting against sight loss caused by diabetes — often before you even notice anything’s wrong.

Also a huge thanks to our brilliant host venue today Boston & Co for allowing us to use your fantastic events space for such an impactful project!
