Last week children in the lily pads room were getting into the swing of autumn 🍂 we have set out activities using autumn colours and themes for the children to explore.

Children were encouraged to make scarecrow faces with paint and straw, we are encouraging children this term to look at body parts and role modelling them, to say the names of body parts. We stuck eyes to the scarecrow to link in with the theme.

Children helped make some new sensory bottles with conkers and lentils for thensensory area. We enjoyed shaking them in front of the mirror. The children were encouraged to make faces in the mirror. We had lots of giggles 🤭.

Dragonfly’s den weekly roundup!

Last week we enjoyed lots more amazing autumn themed activities. We painted the leaves in lovely autumn colours and used them to make prints🍁🍂. We also practiced our fine motor skills using squeezy scissors to chop up the leaves. We also enjoyed playing in our new water tray, adding in toys and resources of our choice to the colourful water. 🐬🐠

Outside we had lots of fun playing together with our friends, painting on the easel and playing in the sand pit. Even when it was raining we enjoyed going outside and running up and down, chasing each other and roaring like dinosaurs! 🦖

🐸 Fidgety Frogs Weekly Update – Week Ending 26th September 🐸

We’ve had a fruitful final week of our ‘Snacktember’ theme and the Fidgety Frogs have truly embraced the joy of healthy eating and independence in the kitchen!

🍌 Fruit Kebabs & Cutting Skills

This week, the children had the opportunity to ‘eat a rainbow’ by making their very own fruit kebabs. Using child-safe knives, the chopping skills they learned last week and their growing confidence, they chopped up strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries and grapes (all the colours of the rainbow) with great care and concentration. It was wonderful to see them beaming with pride as they created colourful, healthy snacks – and even more wonderful to see them enjoy eating their creations!

🍦 Banana Ice Cream Fun!

To celebrate the end of ‘Snacktember’, we made our very own banana ice cream! The children were fascinated to see how frozen bananas could be blended into a creamy, delicious treat with no added sugar. Many asked for seconds (and thirds!) – a sure sign of success.

💃 Get Moving with Danny Go!

We’ve also been focusing on gross motor development this week. The children had so much fun dancing and exercising along to “Danny Go!” a big favourite in class! These energetic sessions helped them explore movement, rhythm, and coordination in such a joyful way.

🏃 Outdoor Adventures

Out in the playground, the Fidgety Frogs have been busy running, jumping, climbing, and riding bikes, building strength, balance, and confidence. It’s been wonderful to watch them challenge themselves and support one another during active play.

💬 Learning Highlights:

Practised fine motor skills through safe knife handling

Developed gross motor skills through active play and movement

Learned about healthy food choices

Explored textures and flavours

Grew in independence and confidence

We’re so proud of how enthusiastic and engaged the children have been throughout ‘Snacktember’. Next week, we’ll be diving into our exciting new theme – stay tuned for more details!

We hope you have had a lovely weekend!

Warm wishes,
