The key to building confidence and enjoyment in the water is finding the right motivation for your dog. For some dogs it’s food, for others it’s praise, but for many dogs, like Bean it’s all about the toy 🥎

Toy choice really matters in the pool. You want a toy that floats well, is easy to see, easy to grab, and most importantly one your dog absolutely loves. The right toy can turn hydrotherapy from something new and unsure into something they can’t wait to do. Motivation builds movement, movement builds strength, and strength builds confidence.

If your dog is a toy lover, bring a few different options and see which one they choose you might be surprised at how much harder they’ll work for the right one

Meet Brian, our lovely senior Staffordshire Bull Terrier enjoying his hydrotherapy session 💙

As dogs get older, their joints can become stiff and sore, and mobility can start to slow down.

Hydrotherapy is a fantastic way to help senior dogs stay comfortable and active. The warm water supports their body weight, reducing pressure on joints while allowing them to move more freely. It can help improve mobility, maintain muscle strength, reduce pain, and keep our golden oldies feeling happier and more confident.

Brian is proving that age is just a number when you’ve got the right support! 🐶💦

Good luck to all the amazing dogs competing at Crufts this week – the biggest dog show in the world! 🐾🏆

We’ve been working incredibly hard behind the scenes at Burntwood Hydro, helping our competition dogs get conditioned, strengthened and ready for the big stage. From building stamina to improving muscle tone and supporting recovery, it’s been a team effort with their dedicated handlers and owners 💪🐶

This week’s video features the gorgeous Luna and Bella enjoying one of their favourite hydro sessions – swimming strong and having a great swim with their toy carrot 🥕💦 Work hard, play hard!

We are so proud of every dog heading to Crufts. You’ve put the work in – now go and shine! ✨🐕

As the top 10 breed entries for Crufts 2026 are announced, it’s interesting to see how closely this reflects the breeds we welcome into the pool here at Burntwood Hydro 🐾💦

From Labradors to Golden Retrievers (who might swap places depending on the week), our most regular swimmers mirror the nation’s favourites, proof that these wonderful breeds aren’t just popular in the show ring, they also benefit hugely from hydrotherapy for fitness, rehabilitation and overall wellbeing.

We love helping every dog stay strong, mobile and happy, whether they’re Crufts contenders or cherished family companions ❤️

Burntwood Canine Hydrotherapy Centre is based at Moorhouse Equestrian Centre, the home of the Equine Veterinary Centre, Gap Farm, Moorhouse, Doncaster, on the border of South & West Yorkshire with easy access to Doncaster, Barnsley, Pontefract, Wakefield, Sheffield and Leeds. We are close to J38 & J39 of the A1 and A638.

Burntwood Canine Hydro was established in 2007 in our purpose built centre in South Kirkby, Pontefract, but as our business grew we decided to relocate to a more rural setting at Moorhouse Equestrian Centre in 2019 where we have ample parking and facilities to meet our customer needs.

We have a dedicated and caring team with many years experience between us. All of our Hydrotherapists are fully qualified and we have the added benefit of a Veterinary Physiotherapist and Sports Massage Therapist, giving you a wide range of services all under one roof.

We work with over 80 referring Veterinary Practices from across our region so why not come and see why we are the pool of choice for so many vets.
