Active Independence

Active Independence We are an charity run by Disabled people offering support, advocacy and training to Disabled people. We don't think disability is dealt with very well.

We are a disabled person's user led organisation in Doncaster. We offer advice, support and assistance to anyone encountering one of the many barriers facing disabled people, and those who care for them. We're here to change that.

This is Mark Ridge who comes to our inclusive cycling group most weeks now with one of his Carers since we have started back in March. He was involved in a life changing road accident a few years ago which put him into a coma and he had to learn to walk and talk again and it left him brain damaged. He still managed to learn to cycle again (one of his passions) and last week he completed 15 laps equivalent to about 11 miles. Well done. What an achievement x

Glorious weather today at the Cycle track. Really sunny on the terrace or a lovely cool breeze when you were riding round the track on a cycle of your choice. You can complete as many laps as you like and then rest or just pop by for the exercise

We love seeing these wonderful photos from last week's Crafting Together: Recycling for Good session at Brecks.

A huge thank you to our new Lead Activity Volunteer, Paula, who stepped in to cover for Maria while she enjoys a well-deserved holiday. By all accounts, it was a fantastic afternoon filled with decoupage, delicious treats, and brilliant music.

The creativity was flowing, and our members had a wonderful time learning new skills. One member shared:

"I've always wanted to learn how to do decoupage! Chris made my clay rabbit and I've covered it – it's something I'll enjoy doing with other things now. Again, Alicia's humour was top form! Don't know where to put it yet, it needs pride of place."

Paula added:

"Had a great afternoon. Thank you Karen and Alisha for helping with the decoupage, Fiona for the delicious scones, and not forgetting Andrew for the entertainment!"

We are so grateful to everyone who made the afternoon so special. Swipe through the photos to see the session in action, as well as some lovely photos of our members proudly showing off their finished artwork in pride of place at home.

It was a bit too warm for some of our regulars, so it was a smaller group for our Creative Threads session today at Maltby.

The heat didn't stop us, though! We still managed to have a good natter while sorting through our supplies and working on our latest projects.

Please Note: There will be no session next week.

We will be taking a short break, but we will be back for our next session on Tuesday 9th June

Creating beautiful flower displays was the craft for yesterday at our Doncaster Art of Balance Group. The room was full of colour, chit chat and laughter all helping each other. I think everyone surprised themselves today when looking at their achievements to take home with them and enjoy x
