About Reflexology
Reflexology is a powerful, relaxing Complementary Therapy that works on the principle that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Gently manipulating these reflex areas improves blood supply and circulation, relieving stress and tension in the associated areas. There is evidence of some form of foot and hand therapy being practiced in China and Egypt as long ago as 4,000 BC. Modern day Reflexology is based on the work of a lady called Eunice Ingham who worked as a Therapist, alongside Dr William Fitzgerald, to develop her foot Reflexology theory in the early 1930’s. It is the Original Ingham Method® of Reflexology that I practice. The treatment has many wonderful benefits including; - helping to relieve stress and tension - improved sleep - reducing feelings of anxiety - improved mood and sense of well being Everyone can enjoy the benefits of Reflexology, from babies to the elderly. Some people regularly use Reflexology for relaxation and as a preventative holistic approach to good health. Others may seek out a Reflexologist at times in their lives when they feel that they need extra support alongside conventional medical care such as during pregnancy, illness or palliative care. Reflexology is in no way intended to replace conventional medicine or to treat for a specific illness or condition, however there is increasing evidence that taking a holistic approach to health and treating the whole person and not just the symptoms achieves a far better outcome for the individual concerned.
