BACK TO BALANCE 🌼

Everyone seems to be loving this treatment at the moment! 💛 So why not give your body, mind, and senses a little love too?

I devised this nurturing treatment to focus on areas that store the majority of tension; the back, feet, scalp, and face. I think I'd book in for this if I could, its almost like 4 treatments in one.

It begins with a luxurious marigold and calendula sugar scrub and tension relieving massage on the back. This is followed by a deeply nourishing organic facial and a calming scalp + foot massage

Clients have mentioned this leaves them feeling restored, refreshed and rebalanced 🫶🏻

WELCOME to 'SAMKURA'

With my return back to Cornwall in July, I shall be transitioning away from my current business name of Dorset Ayurveda.

A new beginning calls for a new name.

Here's a little insight into the reasons behind my blending of the words 'Sama' and 'Sakura' in case you were wondering 👇🏼

SAMA
In certain cultures sama means listener, yet in others it signifies respect, equilibrium, and is frequently used to describe a calmness and tranquility of mind... balance is the key.

SAKURA (cherry blossoms)
Sakura holds deep significance in Japan as a profound symbol of transience, impermanence, renewal and the beauty of life's fleeting nature. Blooming intensely for only one to two weeks, they embody the philosophy of 'mono no aware', encouraging mindfulness and presence.

These are all important values and philosophy which I try to embody in life, and also in my practice as a therapist.

Don't worry, all of the gorgeous treatments on the menu will remain the same with Samkura, plus a couple of new ones I'll introduce later down the line. My Cornwall location will be confirmed closer to the time.

SPRING INTO LIFE 🌸

As we are still transitioning from a long winter slumber, springtime brings with it a sense of renewal, cleansing, lightness, and inspiration. During any seasonal change, the qualities in the natural world around us begin to shift.

We can help avoid any unwanted 'kapha' accumulation (dampness, heaviness, stagnation, coldness) by following a few simple suggestions the science of Ayurveda encourages at this time of year;

🌸 Rise with the sun + scrape your tongue

🌸 Warm sesame oil masages & dry body brushing

🌸 Salt water gargling for any excess mucus production

🌸 Concentrate on bitter, astringent, spicier tastes to counteract the heavy, damp qualities lingering from winter

🌸 Up your intake of dark, leafy greens. Avoid too much dairy, sweet, overly-oily or fried foods

🌸 This is the most ideal time of vear to do a cleanse or incorporate gentle fasting into your diet

🌸 You may notice your digestive fire is a little weaker, so opt for lighter, simpler food choices and slightly smaller portions

🌸 Add plenty of spices to your cooking - ginger, cumin, coriander, fennel, turmeric, black pepper

🌸 Get outsidel! Take advantage of the longer days and breathe in nature

🌸 Practice sun salutations + right nostril breathing

I HAVE SOME NEWS 🪷

With spring comes many changes, and this year has brought about a big decision... to return home to Cornwall. After almost 9 years in beautiful Dorset, myself and my husband will be moving back, as of July.

It has been a subject of discussion for quite some time, with varying factors for the decision. But now seems like a very natural and right time to go and be closer to my elderly parents, amongst many other reasons.

Our time in Dorset has offered yet another adventure in life for us. A county full of stunning countryside and a wild jurassic coastline... it really has been quite a special place to live. I'll miss my Durdledoor hikes, that's for certain!

But most of all, I shall miss each and every client that has walked through the door and supported me and my business whilst I've been located here.
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such amazing, loyal clients and trusting me with your body. I feel such gratitude for our sessions throughout your wellness journey, and continue to learn so much from each and every one of you. All the conversations, laughter, tears, life stories and travel tales shared will be in my heart always 🩵

I shall be setting up a practice and taking all the gorgeous treatments down south (there'll be a new ocean inspired one too), so watch this space for where I'll be located. A few of my Dorset clients have already booked in, so please feel free to keep in touch, and hopefully see more of you there 🙏🏼

A TIME TO EXHALE

Aaand... relax 😌

I had the most nourishing solo spa journey here last week, gifted by my wonderful husband ❤️

Every time I step foot in The Scarlet, my body, mind and soul feel instantly soothed. A moment of calm, a time to exhale, where nothing else matters other than to unfurl... everything softens.

I experienced a beautifully intuitive massage by Helen, it was like a 2hr meditation and exactly what I needed. It felt I'd been transported somewhere else, and I literally floated into one of the hanging pods in the dark relaxation room... total bliss 🙏🏼

As most of you already know, I worked at this gorgeous spa in the past, and its wonderful to now return here as a guest. Forever grateful to this place for teaching me so much in my time there. It encouraged me to deepen my knowledge of Ayurveda and allowed me to grow in so many ways.

Being a therapist and sole trader, its imperative to give back to yourself. To replenish and restore... and this is definitely my favourite place to do it 🪷

MUKHA PADA SHIRO ABHYANGA 🪷

Mukha = face
Pada = feet
Shiro = head
Abhyanga = oilation

This de-stressing, grounding and balancing treatment involves Ayurvedic massage techniques and marma pressures (vital energy points). It focuses on the face, feet, lower legs, scalp and neck with the use of a nourishing herbal body oil and a hydrating primrose and frankincense facial oil. MEET 'AGNI' - YOUR DIGESTIVE FIRE 🔥

'Agni' is a Sanskrit word for fire.

From the Ayurvedic perspective on digestion, agni is the principle of transformation throughout the body. When this internal fire struggles to completely assimilate the food we eat, the undigested food particles can increase toxin formation in the body, eventually leading to imbalances. It is said that if an individual’s agni is strong, disease cannot reside.

Ayurveda teaches the importance of strengthening our digestive fire, and being nourished by what we take into our body is imperative to our mental and physical state of health. But digestion goes deeper than just the food we eat, it's also how we process emotions, thoughts, feelings, experiences and our environment around us.

THE 4 TYPES OF DIGESTIVE FIRE:
🔥 Sama agni (Balanced agni) –
Most desirable agni. Natural hunger. Food is easily absorbed with no counter effects. A sign that all doshas are in balance

🔥Vishama agni (Vata/Irregular) –
Irregular, erratic agni. Erratic digestion/hunger.
Irregular eating patterns. Tendency towards constipation. Food is only partially digested

🔥Tikshna agni (Pitta/Strong) –
Penetrating, sharp, hot agni. Robust digestive fire. Large appetite, tendency towards getting 'hangry'. Hungry late at night. Loose stools.

🔥Manda agni (Kapha/Slow) –
Sluggish, heavy, cold agni. Digestion is weak. Food only partially digested. Low appetite but gains weight easily. Heavy, mucus stools

So trust the fire that fuels your being, nourish your body and mind with soulful food and restorative practices. Your agni will thank you for it ✨️

GINGER CHUTNEY RECIPE 🫚

From just a few simple ingredients, this ginger chutney is fantastically versatile and super easy to make. You can use it in your smoothies, soups, herbal teas, stir-frys, chai, or simply in your warm water in the morning. Consuming this not only stimulates the digestive fire, it can increase appetite if ¼ tspn is taken prior to your meal, or taken after eating it can ease any bloating and heaviness you may feel. It also includes all the 6 tastes Ayurveda suggest to use in each meal to encourage satiation - sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, astringent. So why not give it a go? 👇🏼

INGREDIENTS:
• Few large 'thumbs' of ginger
• Juice of half a lime or lemon
• 1 teaspoon honey*, agave or jaggery
• Pinch of cracked black pepper and salt

*Note; If using honey as the sweetener, be sure not to add it to anything hot (above 409C), just stick to using it in lukewarm foods and fluids. Heating honey is known to de-nature the beneficial medicinal properties and enzymes, and can become toxic in the system over time.

METHOD:
• Peel and chop the ginger
• Blitz everything in a food processor
• Store in an airtight jar in the fridge and it should last for a couple of weeks

Feel free to alter the ratio of ingredients for your palate. I personally prefer lime to lemon, as it has a 'sweeter' taste. Making a batch of this is so much simpler than having to peel some ginger every time you need it.

As per usual, I've returned back to my other 'home' (Cornwall) for the festive season.

You truly are the most fantastic clients one could wish for and I couldn't do it without you!
