Last week, we celebrated the National ODP Day. Today, meet Matt, one of our Operating Department Practitioners 👨‍⚕️

We sat down with Matt to talk about his career journey, apprenticeships, and what he loves most about working at Winterbourne.

Matt started as a porter before becoming a Theatre Healthcare Assistant, completing his apprenticeship and discovering his passion for theatre work. He then went on to train as an ODP.

He highly recommends the apprenticeship route, especially for such a hands-on role, and says what makes Winterbourne special is the supportive team and positive culture.

Last week, some of our team spent a fantastic day at Southampton stadium for Agincare 's Injury to Independence seminar.

We were delighted to be part of such an inspiring event, connecting with professionals across healthcare, legal and care sectors, all focused on supporting people on their journey from injury to independence.

A special highlight was our GP, Dr Blunt, who delivered an insightful talk on the importance of holistic care and treating the whole person, not just the injury. A powerful reminder of how integrated support can truly make a difference.

Thank you to Agincare for hosting such a valuable event. We’re excited to see how the new Complex Injury Partnerships Programme develops!

Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) may work behind the scenes, but they are always at the heart of patient care.

Like superheroes, they stay calm under pressure, putting patients first every time.

This is Charlene, an ODP and Theatre Manager here at The Winterbourne, showing what happens when she gets ready for work & puts her scrub cap on - her focus shifts completely. Everyday thoughts fade, and her patients become her priority.

Meet Michaela, one of our dedicated Registered Nurses 👩‍⚕️

Starting as a Healthcare Assistant at just 18 while studying Health & Social Care, Michaela went on to complete a Nursing Associate apprenticeship, followed by a Nurse apprenticeship.

Today, patients benefit from her calm, reassuring approach and her commitment to ensuring everyone feels heard, supported, and cared for.

She even takes time to inspire future nurses, recently speaking to Weymouth College students about life in healthcare.

We’re incredibly proud of Michaela's achievements and her aspirations to become a Pain Specialist Nurse. 💙
