This is certainly true in my experience. Being mindful allows you to respond to your client’s needs and their body. This requires a well-grounded therapist who is not distracted by the busyness of life, someone who can be present in what their hands are doing and feeling.

So much of our lives is spent on the to do list mentality, ticking off those boxes that it can translate into how we work. Engaging in your work as a mindful therapist requires you put that behind you, suppressing the tendency to be a performance led therapist. It can take some skill in the beginning to quieten your thoughts and to be an observer, it can be a challenge for those of us who have been trained to use reasoning as a method in which we move forward, to make decisions, to choose the next move.

Have more fun!

Studies (do we really need them to tell us this?!?!) have repeatedly shown that having fun is good for you. It’s good for your mental health, good for your physical health, extends your life expectancy, elevates mood and generally leads to greater fulfilment in life.

Define fun though…
Think back to some of the moments in your life that you remember as being the most fun. What did they involve? And more importantly how can you have more of that in your life? Chances are they all involve two things: connection (to other people sharing your fun, or to yourself or a place), and flow (letting go completely and being focussed and in the moment). Play is important too. It’s not just for kids 😉

I think sometimes people spend all their time so distracted or busy that they forget to have fun. If that sounds like you then take a moment. Have a laugh. Be present. Stop worrying. Life is too short 😊

Photo of me having fun. Connection to my bike 😉, flow of being fully absorbed in the experience.

Someone has just asked me what does having a tight muscle mean as the physio she has just seen didn’t explain 🤦‍♀️

Basically it’s muscle imbalance, muscles work in groups (agonists and antagonists) when one is tight and strong the opposite can be long and weak, so the weak group needs to be strengthened with appropriate exercises and does take time, patience and consistency is the key 👍🏻

Hope that helps.

I have helped this lady by giving her some exercises but she should ask her own therapist as they have done the assessment 🤦‍♀️
