Deepdene was lit last week as we celebrated Diwali. Everyone came together in a colourful tapestry of activities.

The festivities began with arts and crafts where we created beautiful decorations including rangoli and bottle lights that brightened up the space with traditional Diwali motifs. A virtual trip to India was a highlight, offering a glimpse into the rich culture and stunning landscapes of the country. Laughter Yoga - a popular practice in India - filled the air with mirth and positivity. The grand finale was a henna party, where everyone indulged in delicious traditional snacks and sweets. A demonstration on how to drape a sari was both educational and fun, allowing everyone to appreciate the elegance of this timeless attire!

Some of the people who live with us recently visited Game N Play, a local board game cafe that has opened in Dorking high street.

With a large selection of games, they choose to spend the afternoon trying new games, such as Hungry Hippos and Frustration, and enjoyed the classics such as Guess Who and Connect 4 (with a few competitive streaks too)!

Our monthly afternoon tea got a little more magical this month as we hosted a Mad Hatters Tea party.

We wish to give a big thank you to Sam, one of our lovely relatives, who handmade the decorations and transformed our hospitality suite into Wonderland. From miniature drink me bottles to character topped cakes accompanied by giant card games and fancy dress it was an afternoon to remember. Even Gismo and Brandy, our pet therapy dogs, got involved.

The people that live with us at Deepdene, families, friends and staff recently celebrated in our beautiful garden with a Summer Fun Day.

Music and singing were provided by one of our favourite entertainers, saxophonist Kevin, and Johnny Quatro who encouraged audience participation with much singing and dancing. A day full of More...Fresh Air and More...Socialising!

The people who live with us at Deepdene enjoyed celebrating the Summer Solstice. Activities in preparation for the day included creating flower bands, a More...Creativity art session painting a Stonehenge picture and making fresh fruit platters.

Fruit platters with ice cream, Pims fruit punch and a selfie photo booth were highlights of the Summer Solstice garden party. Everyone enjoyed the sunshine and More...Fresh Air out in our garden, singing sunshine themed songs with good company and chat.

At Deepdene, it is lovely to be able to host special occasions in our new hospitality suite!

Doreen and Christine share a birthday on the same day. They were the first to take advantage of the new hospitality suite, having a joint party with family and friends. Alec enjoyed a delicious birthday lunch with his daughter and a friend. Jack celebrated his birthday with a party with his wife and family and friends.
Everyone had a great time and loved our new facilities!

The people who live with us at Deepdene had a wonderful time joining in events to commemorate the 80th VE Day. They enjoyed an afternoon tea with a celebration cake made by the chef. During the afternoon a special guest from Dorking museum gave an interesting talk about Dorking in wartime. Regular entertainer Linley led a fun wartime sing-along. The highlight of the week was joining in with Dorking VE Day 80 celebrations on Dorking high street. They enjoyed songs from the era and the Rampant Roosters morris dancers. Some of the residents and staff took up the invitation to join in one of the dances. They had a lovely outing, enjoying the sunshine and the entertainment.

Deepdene was filled with fun, cuddles, and soft paws for Easter, as we welcomed some adorable guests - two playful lambs, cuddly bunnies, chirpy chicks, and the most curious pig who kept everyone entertained as it scurried around the room. The people who live with us, along with our team, had a fantastic time - from feeding the lambs to petting the bunnies and carefully holding the chicks. The little pig stole the show and the lambs had their fun trotting about. It's amazing how the presence of animals can bring such joy.
