The RSV vaccine helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common virus that can make babies and older adults seriously ill. It's recommended during pregnancy and for adults aged 75 to 79.

https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/rsv-vaccine/

The potentially life-saving Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccination aimed at protecting newborns and older adults is available all year round.

RSV can be very serious for those who are more vulnerable, such as newborns, infants and older adults. If you’re eligible, getting vaccinated is the best and simplest thing you can do to protect yourself or your newborn baby from RSV.

Take up the offer of vaccination no matter what time of the year it is.

🦠 Travelling abroad this summer? Don’t overlook the risk of rabies.

Rabies is rare, but it's almost always fatal once symptoms appear. The good news? It’s entirely preventable with the right precautions and timely treatment.

If you’re heading to parts of Asia, Africa, Central or South America, or other areas where rabies is present, here’s what you need to know:

💡 Protect yourself while travelling:

✅ Avoid contact with stray or wild animals – especially dogs, cats, monkeys and bats
✅ If bitten or scratched, wash the wound immediately with soap and water and seek urgent medical advice
✅ Pre-travel vaccination is recommended if you’re:
• Visiting remote areas
• Travelling long-term
• Working with animals or children.

💉 Even if vaccinated, you’ll still need post-exposure treatment — but the vaccine gives you a vital head start.

🔶 Please note: The rabies vaccine is not provided by the NHS for travel.

At Medwyn Travel Clinic (https://medwyntravelclinic.co.uk/)
we offer comprehensive travel health consultations and private vaccinations tailored to your destination.

🌡️ Amber Heat Health Alert: Stay Safe in the Heat! ☀️
The UK Health Security Agency has issued an Amber Heat Health Alert across all of England, with temperatures expected to hit 30°C for the first time this year.

🔥 Thursday 19th June is set to be a scorcher, with widespread temperatures of 27–30°C. This heat can affect everyone, especially vulnerable groups like older adults, young children, and those with long-term conditions.

💡 Top Tips to Stay Well in a Heatwave:

✅ Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water and avoid too much alcohol or caffeine.
✅ Keep cool – Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm) and close curtains to block direct sunlight.
✅ Dress for the weather – Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a wide-brimmed hat if heading outside.
✅ Look out for others – Check on elderly relatives or neighbours who may struggle to keep cool.
✅ Be sun smart – Use at least SPF30 sunscreen and reapply regularly.
✅ Know the signs of heat exhaustion – Tiredness, dizziness, headache, feeling sick, excessive sweating. If symptoms occur, move somewhere cool, drink water and rest.

Cervical screening, which used to be called smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer. It's offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.

Cervical screening checks a sample of cells from your cervix for certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). These types of HPV can cause abnormal changes to the cells in your cervix and are called "high-risk" types of HPV.

If high-risk types of HPV are found during screening, the sample of cells is also checked for abnormal cell changes. If abnormal cells are found, they can be treated so they do not get a chance to turn into cervical cancer.

Cervical screening is one of the best ways to protect you from cervical cancer.

It’s .

The NHS has pledged to eliminate cervical cancer by 2040.

Cervical screening, along with the HPV vaccination and treatment for cell changes, can all help prevent cervical cancer.
