Do you have a lazy bum?! 🍑 This is when your gluts become lazy and ‘forget’ how to activate properly. One common reason for this is long periods of sitting, where our hip flexors get tight and inhibit our glut muscles.

When this happens, the biomechanics change as the surrounding muscles overcompensate or fatigue. In turn this can lead to lots of other issues such as back pain, knee pain, flat feet, hip issues.

Your gluts work to stabilise your pelvis in many directions and so need to be trained through many different ranges/exercises.

Training your gluts is so important! Which is why we do those mean ‘butt burning’ moves in class 🙌🏻

Back to school this week!

It’s a been lovely not having to rush out in the mornings and be tied to after school sports for a short while, but I think we’re ready to get back to normal routines in our household 😆

With this in mind normal Pilates classes resume this week:

🌸Mums and Babies playgroup 10.30 on Thursday

🌿Post natal 6pm Thursday

🌾 Beginner Matwork starting Aug 5th Thursday at 7pm (next week)

New Class! Yay 🎉 A space has become available at Mount Pleasant Community centre in the evening.

This class will be a beginner Matwork Pilates class suitable for anyone new to Pilates, anyone who would like a refresher or anyone who wants a lower impact workout (that doesn’t mean easy though 😉)

The focus will be on Pilates foundations, core strength, improved posture, balance and flexibility.

Who I am?

I am Sharon, a physiotherapist of 20 years and a mum of two small boys. I qualified as a Matwork Pilates instructor in 2005 with , Swissball training with jemsmovement in 2006 and have recently completed further training ante/postnatal Pilates with and small equipment training (think elastic bands, small balls and foam rollers!)

I love teaching classes, meeting new people and I love showing you how to be aware of how your body moves and how to move safely. Whether you are post natal, recovering from injury, trying Pilates for the first time or a seasoned athlete Pilates is for you.

Being a Physio I can guide you into to best positions and postures, show you how to activate the right muscles and give you that extra clinical support if needed.

Posture 🌺

Now I’m not perfect by any stretch, but the aim is long and light. Lift up through the chest, relax through the shoulders and neck, gently pull in through your core, soft knees and relax feet. As if the top of your head is being lift up by a helium balloon. 🎈

Pilates is great for posture, it works those stabilising muscles that control your joints, support your spine and maintain good alignment.

Two more principles of Pilates: Control and Precision

🌸 Control - mindful movement. Control is elemental is Pilates activities. Using the correct form and awareness through each movement.

🍂 Precision - practice and routine improves precision of movement leading to a greater awareness and control.

Your Pilates instructor should provide details on how to move through your Pilates movements and correct positions/postures throughout the class 🤍
