💥 Knee update from therapist Lucy 💥 ⛷️
‘I wasn’t sure if skiing would be on the cards after rupturing my ACL, especially as a relative beginner, but here we are! A lot of people told me to be careful about tearing my ACL on this trip, but not having one seems to have solved that 😂
Non-operative management for returning to dynamic sports isn’t the usual route, but using my experience as a case study has given me a whole new perspective—not just as an athlete, but as a therapist. I explored my options with some really clever and experienced people, and I can’t thank them enough.
Thank you to —the Z12 brace gave me that extra support and comfort; it’s nice to know that my skiing ability on the black run won the award for the biggest liability. But honestly, I barely thought about my knee. And that’s the best part. When sport is taken away from you, things can get really low, having that feeling back is why I love my job.
Thank you to for their constant support and use of cell regenerative treatment to initially treat the bone micro fractures I had. This was the only area that caused me pain before we got the MRI results and diagnosis. If you haven’t heard of this treatment please educate yourselves and others as it hands down allowed my body to heal more effectively.
Going through this has made me a better therapist—this journey has taught me lessons that have improved not just my rehab, but how I support others too. More than anything, it’s reminded me that movement is treatment for your mind and body. Never write yourself off just because something isn’t “normal.”
Rehab never really stops, but right now, I’m just looking forward to getting back into training and enjoying game day again! ⚽️
