Feeling tight, stiff, or run down this Twixmas?

You're not the only one. Here's 5 simple ways to look after yourself this holiday season.

1️⃣ Prioritise movement, even in small doses. Holiday plans often disrupt normal routines. Short regular movement breaks - even 5 minutes - can help prevent stiffness and pain.

2️⃣ Lift smart when handling gifts and shopping bags. Keep items close to your body. Bend your knees and avoid twisting.

3️⃣ Stay warm to protect tight muscles. Cold weather can increase tension. Layering up and keeping your neck and lower back warm supports mobility and reduces discomfort.

4️⃣ Don't wait for pain to build up. If you're feeling niggles or persistent tightness, early care can make a big difference. Chiropractic and sports massage can help you stay comfortable throughout the holidays.

5️⃣ Create small moments of calm. Festive stress is real. Breathing exercises, or 5 minutes away from the noise can help your nervous system reset.

Exercise 1 in our 4-part series on ankle sprain recovery. We’re starting with a simple but effective exercise: rolling a prickle ball under your foot.

✨ Why it helps
This simple exercise helps release tension, improves circulation, and gently activates the muscles in your foot, making it the perfect starting point for recovery.

👉 How to do it
- Place a prickle ball under your foot.
- Roll the ball slowly from heel to toes, applying gentle pressure.
- Spend 1-2 minutes on each foot, focusing on tight or sore spots.

Poor posture can be a right pain. 🤕

In the short term it can cause things like headaches and back or neck pain.

But in the long term, bad posture habits can lead to changes in the spinal alignment, recurrent injuries and lasting health issues.

Here's 4 simple ways to improve your posture.

1️⃣ Keep your shoulders back. Hunching over your desk can cause tightness in your neck and chest muscles. Leading to pain and physical limitations over time. So remember to keep your shoulders back and down. A nice cue is to make sure they're in line with your ears.

2️⃣ Wear supportive footwear. The curve of your foot supports the curve of your spine. Choose shoes that fit well and give you the support you need. If you have fallen arches, opt for cushioned arch supports.

3️⃣ Check your sitting position. There's no 'ideal' way to sit. But if you aim to keep your legs uncrossed, feet on the floor and back against the back of the chair, you'll be in a good position.

4️⃣ Adjust your work environment. Desk work. It's normal, but not optimal. Try setting alarms throughout your working day to prompt yourself into moving. Whether you get up and take a walk every so often. Or simply stretch where you are. It all helps. Standing desks are also a great option.

The clinic is closing.

Not forever. Just from the 4th-10th of September.

We'll be getting our hiking boots on, doing a few walks, and topping up on our vitamin D levels, etc. 🥾

A small caveat to being a family run clinic is we need to shut up shop for the occasional family break.

But don't worry. We'll be back at the bench treating again from the 11th. (The week is booking up fast though, so if you need an appointment, do get in touch to secure a time.) 🙏
