Solymar Chiropractic Christchurch Chiropractor and Sports Massage

What do a carpenter, gardener, retired police officer, office worker and chiropractor have in common?

They all ended up in clinic this week! 🌿

This week I thought I’d do something a bit different. Instead of talking about why people came in, let’s look at what they do every day.

Different jobs with different demands...and yes, even chiropractors need treatment too! 😅 Grateful to be able to support chiropractic colleagues and keep learning together along the way.

I hope everyone has a lovely bank holiday weekend ☀️

The BCA welcomes the progress on waiting times, with the Government meeting its interim target for 65% of patients to begin treatment within 18 weeks by March 2026. This will make a real difference for many patients waiting for care.

However, the picture for musculoskeletal services remains a serious concern. MSK waiting lists in England rose to 420,366 in March, up by almost 30,000 in a single month and the highest level seen in the past year.

To bring these waiting times down sustainably, the NHS must make greater use of community based MSK care.
can play an important role in helping patients access timely support, manage pain earlier and reduce pressure on wider NHS services through effective care closer to home.

Why did my chiropractor only treat me for 5 minutes? 😡

I’ve seen comments online across various platforms from people feeling disappointed after “only getting 5 minutes of treatment” at their first chiropractic appointment. Unfortunately, social media has created a very narrow view of chiropractic care, one that often focuses purely on loud cracks, intense treatments and quick fixes. These videos tend to show a very snapshot of what can actually happen at your appointment.

Yes, adjustments formed the foundation of our profession and remain an important tool in what we do. They can be incredibly helpful for the right person at the right time. But real clinical practice involves so much more than dramatic cracking videos.

It’s so important to me at Solymar Chiropractic to ensure that expectations are discussed and understood from the outset. A good first appointment should involve proper questioning, assessment, clinical reasoning and individualised care.

Sometimes that means a full treatment.
Sometimes it means a gentler approach.
Sometimes it means waiting before treatment at all.
Sometimes it means signposting you in another direction.

That’s not “doing less”.
That’s going what’s appropriate for the person in front of us.

Lots of variety in clinic this week including ongoing functional care, tension-type headaches and disc-related symptoms with associated sciatica.

We also had a case of vertebral compression fracture, confirmed with imaging after initial consultation earlier in the week. This is the collapse of the spinal vertebra, commonly seen with reduced bone density.

Chiropractic care doesn’t treat the fracture itself, we provided gentle supportive care, and in this case medical acupuncture was particularly beneficial in helping to ease surrounding muscular tension and protective spasm, as well as reducing pain levels.

A varied week, but a good reminder of how broad and interconnected MSK presentations can be in everyday practice.

Condition of the Week is back 👀📖

We’re making a comeback with sciatica, which despite common misconception, is actually a symptom rather than a condition itself.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, or are concerned about back or leg pain, we have some space in the diary next 🗓️

Why would someone run 106km?

On May 2nd, Flynn is taking on the IOW Ultra Challenge. Running 106km around the entire coastline.

An incredible challenge of endurance, running for his Granny who is currently battling terminal cancer.

Like so many families, this journey has been extremely tough. And it’s something that I can understand on a personal level too, cancer has affected my own family, which makes supporting this cause even more to us.

Throughout it all, have been there.

There will be moments during those 106km where stopping feels like the only option. But for those facing cancer, there is no choice. That’s why this matters.

I’ve been proud to support Flynn along the way as he prepares for this huge challenge.

If you can, please consider supporting or sharing this journey. It will make a real difference. 🔗 Fundraising link in my bio.
