We are two of the Island's GPs who feel that currently the NHS services do not give patients enough time to have a meaningful discussion.We know this is not the fault of the local GPs, but we decided to offer an alternative way of consulting a doctor. This means You can decide how much time you want to spend with us and what topics you would like to discuss. We don't have any government targets to meet so we can fully focus on what matters to you. We are currently going to work at Manx Medical Imaging at Village Walk, Onchan, before moving to out own premises.

It's so easy nowadays to stop asking for help.
The system can make it very hard to get in to see a doctor and then you may have a long wait before tests are done.

It can be exhausting being ill!

After a while, I hear patients saying they felt they were wasting everyone’s time.
Please don’t stop pushing for answers.

I find so often, that when we start at the beginning and hear the whole story, often all the tests have been done - it is just that no one has pulled everything together.

If you feel you have got to the end of the road, come to us, bring as many results as you can get a hold off and let’s just review the whole case.
Often we can make sense of it and you can then decide how to proceed.

🚩From my desk this week I am seeing the same pattern on repeat: people pushing through work, school and life while their body is waving a very clear red flag.

If you are run down, you will catch everything.
If you keep going anyway, it usually lasts longer and it spreads further.

A sensible reset looks like this:
🪑slow down for 24 to 48 hours
🛌fluids, warmth and proper sleep
🥪keep meals simple
🤒treat the symptoms and let your immune system do its job

And please hear this part: if breathing feels hard, chest pain appears, you cannot keep fluids down or you are getting worse not better, then get checked. That's not overreacting. That's being smart.

Blue Monday.

Every January we see the same thing.
People tell themselves they are just being dramatic and they try to push through.

Here’s the truth from a GP’s chair: Blue Monday is a marketing idea not a medical diagnosis.
But the January dip is very real.

Short days, less daylight, less movement, money worries, pressure to “start fresh” and a run of winter bugs can make you feel flat, anxious, snappy or exhausted.

If you feel like that right now try this first:
⛅️get outside in daylight within an hour of waking
😴keep sleep simple: same wake time most days
🥐eat something proper at breakfast, even if small
🚶‍➡️move your body for ten minutes today not an hour tomorrow
🗣️talk to someone you trust and say it out loud

And if it is lasting more than a couple of weeks, or you are not functioning at work or at home, or you feel hopeless, please don’t carry it alone. That is exactly what we are here for.

I see this a lot.

You join a gym because you want to feel better and that is a good move. But the gym can only work with what your body is doing on the inside and that bit often gets missed.

In clinic people tell me, “I’m training three times a week but I still feel flat” or “I’m eating better but the weight will not shift” or “I’m doing everything right and I still feel anxious and exhausted.”

Sometimes it is not effort that is missing. It is information.

Your blood pressure can be creeping up while you feel fine.
Cholesterol can be climbing with no symptoms at all.
Low iron, thyroid issues, hormones, sleep problems, long term stress can all look like “I’m just tired and getting older.”

A gym plan is great.
A health check gives us your baseline so we know what we are actually working with and what to focus on first.

Guess what?

We bought a house.
Wooohoooo!! I didn’t think it would happen so fast.
But honestly, I’m so relieved. Because frankly, I couldn’t BE the house any longer.

Let me explain… When we made the offer and then found out it was accepted, I broke down in sobs. Huge sobs of relief.
Rose looked up at me, puzzled, and asked, “Why are you crying, Mummy?”

And I said, “Because I’m just so glad we’ll have our own house again.”

I went on to try and explain to her a concept which feels like some amorphous, unnameable thing I feel in my bones.
I feel like I’ve been the house for my family during this year of huge transition.

You know what I mean?

Your home is meant to hold you. It holds the energy of your daily life. It holds your family. It provides the safety. The sanctuary.
And with everything that’s changed for us in the past year, moving, travelling, repatriating… I’ve been the one doing all the holding.

Honestly, my family really took that 2025 - Year of the Snake transformation energy literally, didn’t we?
We shed everything!
Shed houses.
Shed schools.
Shed countries.
And now, with the Year of the Horse arriving, we’re starting fresh. Ready for the momentum I feel like this year will bring.

And the best part is that this house is already done. It doesn’t need fixing or renovating. No living for 4 years in a kitchen I really want to demolish every day. We can just move in and rest. Phew!

It feels like we’ve really spoilt ourselves.

When we did the inspection, I looked out from what will be our bedroom, and I felt my Queen energy rise, as I took in the beauty of the valley spilling out below the window.
So yes, I’m finally ready to be in a home.

But… I still needed to lay down all that energy I’ve been holding for my family, and in truth the community, from last year.

Which is why, as always, I’ve been doing my little alongside retreat.
It’s a sacred, simple process I return to each New Year to:

Shed the energetic residue of the past
Clear space in my system
And call in the new year vision that’s waiting to land
I never do it exactly on New Year’s Day. Just some time between Christmas and towards the end of January.

I guess I’m really prepping for the Lunar New Year, and that’s okay.
So it’s okay if you’re not feeling ready for 2026 yet!

January always starts with good intentions.

Then life gets busy, the plan goes fuzzy and health slips back to the bottom of the list.

Staying on track in 2026 is not about willpower. It is about a simple system and the right support around you.

Here is the approach we see work best.

1) Get a proper baseline
Not a random shopping list of tests. A proper review of your history, symptoms, medications, lifestyle and risks then targeted testing where it genuinely helps.

2) Pick your focus
Most people fall off track because they try to fix everything at once. Choose one to three priorities for the next 90 days. Energy, sleep, weight, stress, hormones, blood pressure, asthma control, gut health. Simple and doable.

3) Make it measurable
If you cannot measure it, you cannot manage it. That might be blood pressure at home, a repeat blood test at the right interval, symptom tracking, weight and waist or sleep consistency. Small check ins beat big promises.

Mannin Doctors was never meant to be “NHS but faster”....It was created to bring back the kind of general practice people thought had disappeared.

If you have never used a private GP before, it is easy to assume it is simply the same appointment, just quicker. Pay a fee, get seen faster, see whoever is available.

That is like thinking a good solicitor sells meetings.
They do not.
They sell certainty, clarity and someone in your corner when it matters.

When Mannin Doctors stepped into the private GP world, we could have chased volume and built a model around appointments as a product.

We chose the opposite.

Because we are not selling appointments.

Blood tests can be brilliant.
They can also be misleading when they are done in the wrong way or used for the wrong reason.

Finger prick testing is convenient and can be useful for some markers.
But it can also create false certainty.

Why
❕Because capillary blood is not always directly equivalent to venous blood
❗Because technique varies person to person
❕Because sample size is tiny
❗Because postage time and handling can affect stability
❕Because some tests simply need venous sampling and proper lab processing

Even where capillary testing can match venous for certain analytes it needs careful validation and quality control.

The biggest pitfall is not the finger prick itself.
It is what happens next.
Results delivered with no clinician to ask “does this fit the bigger picture”

Prescribing by click and collect

A prescription is not a product.
It is a clinical decision.

The problem with online prescribing and over the counter “solutions” is not that they exist.
It is that they can quietly skip the bits that keep you safe.

The basics matter:
❔Have you been properly assessed
❓Do we know your past history
❔Do we know what else you take
❓Do we know what your symptoms might actually mean

Good clinicians can prescribe remotely, but only when the safeguards are there and when remote care is appropriate.

Regulators have strengthened expectations for online supply because people were receiving medicines that were not clinically appropriate.

At Mannin Doctors we are not anti-convenience.
We are pro-safe decisions with proper documentation and follow up.
