New at Mannin Doctors: Dxcover brain cancer blood test
A new headache can be worrying, especially if it feels different to your usual one, or it is getting worse. Most headaches are not caused by a brain tumour, but, when you are anxious, you want clear answers quickly.
I am really pleased to share that we can now offer Dxcover, a liquid biopsy blood test that helps us assess the likelihood of a malignant brain tumour. It is a straightforward blood sample, and, for many patients, results can be turned around quickly, often within 24 hours, and, in most cases, within 48 hours.
What this means for you:
If you have a new headache, a worsening headache, or you simply feel that your body is not playing ball, this test can help us rule out a malignant brain tumour quickly, and, importantly, help guide what we do next.
If the result is reassuring, we can have a sensible discussion about whether you still need a scan, or whether we should look at other likely causes first.
If the result raises concern, we can move quickly, and discuss urgent next steps, including imaging.
A key point to be clear about, this test is designed to help with malignant tumours, and, it is not a reliable test for benign tumours, so, depending on your symptoms, a scan may still be the right plan.
If you would like to discuss whether Dxcover is appropriate for you, please book a consultation with us, and, we will talk through your symptoms, take your blood sample, and agree a clear plan.
If you have a sudden, severe headache, weakness, speech changes, seizures, confusion, or a stiff neck with fever, please seek urgent medical help immediately.
