🥳 Beth’s new exciting adventure 🥳

First off, not to worry - I’m not actually going anywhere!

During all those Covid lockdowns, I spent my time doing further qualifications in helping people with their relationships with food, their body and exercise. Since then, my passion has grown and grown in helping people live the life they want, rather than being caught up in food/body worries. It is already an area where I help people one to one, and now I want to be able to help even more people!

So here is Life for every Body!
My new venture.

If you have worked with me, are working with me - or even someone totally new to me, please come and follow me on

Beth 💛

Ps.
If you are a past or current client and you are happy to give anonymous feedback about the work we have done together that I can share in this new community - please send me a message on any social media platforms you follow me on, or email me at the usual Beth.islandpsychology@gmail.com

We might not have even worked on food/body issues but I would appreciate your feedback anyway as I hope to let people know that I am a trustworthy and qualified psychologist (when we live in a world of internet misinformation).
I would be so grateful! 🙏

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme is “mental health is a universal human right”.

Unfortunately, in a world of inequalities, not everyone has the same access to timely help that should be available to all.

One thing we can all do to help each others’ mental health is to be a supportive community. Whether this is setting up support groups, parent and child groups, going along to craft groups, playing sports with others, or popping by to check on your neighbour. This connection with others has been shown to improve everyone’s mental health within a community.

Please feel free to comment with things you do that other people could try, or any events or groups people can get involved with across the island so we can all feel more connected.

💚Mental health awareness week 💚

Myth: good mental health is being happy all the time and never having any problems.

In reality: when we talk about ‘mental health’ it actually means something very different to feeling fine all the time. We all have ups and downs, anxiety and calmness, easier times and difficult times,

AND

Good mental health is being able to cope with these ups and downs. Coping with the everyday stressors of life, being aware of things that impact our mental health, using our strengths and talents, having the capacity to learn and grow, doing some things well, and feeling connected to other people in our life. This is what mental health is.

Mental health isn’t just about being okay, it is being able to cope when you’re not ok.

What have you done today that helps you? 💚

Today is World Mental Health day!

We haven’t posted on our social media in a long time and thought today is the perfect time to do so. One of the important things we believe in when it comes to mental health is recognising what is important to you in life and making that a priority.

Kate has been prioritising being a mummy. Beth has been looking after her health after some challenges earlier this year. And both have been prioritising helping our clients - with Beth continuing to see clients face to face and Kate offering wonderful online therapy so you can see her from the comfort of your own home. With all these priorities coming first, unfortunately social media has had to take a back seat.

We are writing this with the hope that you can also recognise the things that are important to you in life and aim to prioritise them.

COVID UPDATE

This update is for our current clients who may be wondering what to expect with their appointments.

💚 Our psychologists will be continuing to take LFT tests throughout the week to ensure we are safe to meet with you in person.

💚 Masks. You are welcome to wear a mask in appointments if it helps you to feel safer.

💚 Cancelling appointments. If you feel uncomfortable with attending your session please contact us 24 hours prior to the appointment to rearrange.

💚 Online sessions. Online therapy will be continuing as normal as restrictions don’t impact on these. If you would like to move to online sessions instead of face to face please get in touch.

We look forward to continuing to supporting our clients in the best way we can in these continued uncertain times.

Take care of yourselves 💚

Hello all,

Given the rise in COVID cases recently, we would like to please ask clients to get in touch via email to cancel/reschedule their appointment if they, or someone at home, has tested positive, or is possibly displaying symptoms of COVID. This is in order to protect all of our clients as best as possible, as well as ourselves and our families.

Thank you for your kind consideration and flexibility.

EMDR is an evidence based treatment for people who have experienced trauma.

Accreditation is a mark of competence and trustworthiness. People looking for help can feel confident knowing it means the highest level of experience and expertise have been attained.

Kate completed standard EMDR training in 2016 and automatically became a "Registered EMDR Practitioner". She then undertook advanced EMDR training and supervision (20+ hours) with an EMDR Consultant who examined her work with at least 25 adult clients. Having completed this process, she was approved by the EMDR Board and became an "Accredited EMDR Practitioner" in 2019.

Kate also works with children and teenagers and there is a separate training and accreditation process for specialising with young people. Kate completed another 20+ hours of supervision with a Child & Adolescent EMDR Consultant who monitored her practice with 25+ young people. She completed advanced Child & Adolescent EMDR training in London, Edinburgh and Birmingham over the last few years. Kate recently submitted her Child & Adolescent EMDR Accreditation application before starting maternity leave and we are delighted to say she is now an Accredited Child & Adolescent EMDR Practitioner as well as an Accredited EMDR Practitioner for Adults. This means Kate is qualified to work at the highest level of EMDR competence and accreditation with adults, teenagers and children.

Kate is currently on maternity leave and plans to return to private practice in late Spring/Summer 2022 and will be taking new referrals then.

You can find Accreditated EMDR Practitioners on https://emdrassociation.org.uk/find-a-therapist/

It's Mental Health Awareness Week and this year's theme is Nature. We think this is a fantastic theme!

We started offering outdoor walking appointments in 2020. Kate completed a four day evidence-based training in 'Taking talking therapy outdoors' in 2019; this course was established by psychologist, Martin Jordan.

Research shows that people who are more connected with nature are usually happier in life and more likely to report feeling their lives are worthwhile. Nature can generate a multitude of positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, creativity and can facilitate concentration.

Nature connectedness is also associated with lower levels of poor mental health; in particular lower depression and anxiety levels.

Let us know how you will be connecting with Nature this week.
