How is funded ?

Many parents believe we are completely KCC funded and are surprised to hear that this is not the case.
Based on 2024 costs:
Pegasus applies for Charities funding and does fundraising to sourcing the £70,000 needed to operate is a real challenge. Every possible grant and funding application is applied for but sadly we are often not successful as the call on funds from charities is so high. Due to the rising prices of all activities and resources needed to run, we have had to increase the price per day for the children attending to £40 each. In reality, the price per individual to attend is £104 per day. This amount appears to be a reasonable cost to ensure the running of the scheme which equated to £73, 349.13

For summer 2026 , need to raise £76,000

What does Pegasus playscheme do in the community ?
• We offer open access for disabled children, giving them opportunities to meet new people, build friendships, and take part in a range of activities. Safe and inclusive spaces are essential for disabled children to play and socialise.
• Our summer playscheme is designed specifically for children with severe and complex disabilities.
• The scheme runs for three weeks and features enjoyable, safe activities.
• Local teenagers provide peer support throughout the programme.
• Community members lead exciting outings.

Who uses ?
The scheme was welcomed back once again to our usual venue at Astor School in Dover – this is a central venue for most of our clients who come from the local towns. In 2024c children have come from the following areas: Dover Deal Herne Bay Folkestone Hythe Canterbury Dymchurch Whitstable 1 . Whilst historically we have largely been a scheme with children and young people attending from Dover and Deal, we have found that due to the lack of alternative provision in the local area that we are now taking people from a much wider area .
Due to volunteer and child ratios, we aim for between 10 and 12 children in each group each day – however not all children attend for every day – their varying needs are such that for some, everyday attendance can be too over stimulating so instead, the child coordinator attempts to fill every space so we can take over the 10/12 . A total of 45 children benefitted from attendance on the scheme this summer (2024)

How did Pegasus Playscheme start ?

We are a voluntary not for profit organisation with charity status, No 299301.

Established in 1986, when a group of parents disheartened by the lack of provision for their own children with disabilities formed Pegasus. It has grown into a well-established community voluntary scheme.
Our scheme benefits children and young adults aged between 8yrs and 21yrs with disabilities, access facilities not provided anywhere else in the area. We help our children develop independence. Whilst keeping them active and healthy. We use sport and exercise to strengthen communities and provide opportunities for people who are excluded or disadvantaged.
Enabling not only the local children with disabilities to engage in active pursuits but encouraging the local teenage youth to volunteer their time
