Living in Ireland we are not well prepared for this hot weather.
Keep yourself hydrated by drinking a glass of water every 2/3 hours. Keep yourself covered with a cotton shirt, cover your head with a hat or umbrella. Protect your skin with a good sun screen and Remember to put sunscreen on your ears, bridge of your nose and your eyelids. Aloe Vera Gel is wonderful for sunburn.
Remember to have plenty of water for your dogs and cats and shelter out of sun. I have noticed that my hens and ducks shelter out of the sun as well.

SUGAR
This morning a Facebook article reminded me the importance of avoiding sugar!!!
About five years ago I did a Herbal course regarding cancer. I felt the most important fact I learnt was that cancer cells need sugar to thrive. Cutting white sugar out completely is so important. In this mornings article they also mentioned having a cup of hot water with lemon juice. The hot drink works differently to it being cold.
Eat fruit instead of sweet sugary buns!!

Thank you all for your kind wishes helping me to celebrate 30 years in practice!

FIRST AID

Yesterday I took part in a EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK COURSE
organised by St. John Ambulance. It was an intensive six hour course leading us through anything from a simple cut or fainting to severe gashes and unconsciousness. How to deal with burns or chemical burns ---- twenty minutes under cool or luke warm water recommended. The afternoon finished with practicing CPR and how to use a defibrillator. A highly recommended course to anyone as you don't know when you might be privileged to save a life!!!
Enjoy the spring blossoms.

LOOK AFTER YOUR LUNGS (Continued)
(taken from Daily Express 8/2/2022)
Bad posture/slouching
Poor posture limits the amount of room your lungs have to move.
Bending over your desk, rounding your shoulders tightens the chest, neck shoulder muscles etc., it is also stopping your ribcage from expanding to give your lungs optimum room to fully inflate.
The imbalace of oxygen and carbon dioxide can cause you to feel stressed and tired.
Good : BBC (bums to back of chairs)
Sit up straight, walk tall with your shoulders back as if a chord is attached to the top of your head pulling you upright. Your lungs now have lots of space for breathing giving you more energy etc.
** Tip practice "wall-angels" ---- standing with your back and head against the wall as you do with a snow angel ---- this allows your chest to open up.

Look after your lungs!
(taken from Daily Express 8/2/2022)

Bad: Shallow (chest) breathing is using only the top part of the lungs but if we don't use the correct muscles properly they get weak over time. Shallow breathing not only means we don't fill the lungs with oxygen but it can also make the body feel stressed.
Good: Deep (belly)breathing this is the most efficient way to breathe and means using the diaphragm - the muscle at the base of the lungs - to allow more oxygen in and more carbon dioxide out.
Tip - check YouTube for yoga breathing

BALANCING THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
A normal pH of 7 is neutral (in urine) whereas a pH below 7 is acidic and above 7 is alkaline. The normal stomach ph is acidic (1.5 to 3.5). We need our stomachs to be very acidic so that it can break down food eg. lemon juice has a pH of between 2 and 3 meaning it is acidic. To help the digestive system most mornings I take about a 1/4 teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda plus about 1/2 teaspoon of Slippery Elm Powder (check that your Slippery Elm is additive free) in equal parts of fruit juice and water. If you leave it sitting for 10-15 mins the powders will have absorbed into the liquid. This will help to keep your pH balanced and heal any inflammation in the whole of the digestive tract.
Grating fresh root ginger into your food, eg. stir fries is very helpful for digestion.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
I have discovered a wonderful place to eat.
Being vegetarian menus rarely are exciting but Balloo House, Killinchy I would give a 5 star rating. I had a starter of tempura vegetables ---- have you ever had a cabbage leaf that literally melted in your mouth! !!!! For main course it was like a Christmas dinner but nut loaf instead of turkey but it was the vegetables that accompanied it were the stars of the plate!!!!! I have never tasted carrot like it!! The Crafty Fox is just across the road so some retail therapy and then a lovely lunch afterwards is recommended.
Wishing you a happy, healthy 2022.

TASTY FOOD!
I have been a vegetarian for over 25 years and what I find is most important to me is that my food is tasty. Don't ask me to simply to eat boiled vegetables. YUCK!!!!!!
I love stir fries as I can add all sorts of vegetables in the one pan and my favourite flavouring is Swiss Vegetable Bouillon Powder. It is an instant stock but it is wonderful for flavouring stir fries and soups.
A little organic Worcester Sauce also adds a lovely dynamic to stir fries.
Salads take on a lovely flavour when you sprinkle Engevita Flakes. It is high in protein, B12 and Vit D. It gives you a cheesy nutty taste! To me a salad means lots of different leaves, cucumber, tomato, coriander, basil, parsley, onions/scallions and maybe a selection of nuts and seeds and also don't be afraid to add fruit to your salad! Could be avacado added, eggs grated cheese.
Instead of bread I found M & S do a lovely sour cream and black pepper Rice Cakes!!
Enjoy experimenting!!

Continuation from the 8th Septembr 2021 from Herbal Legacy Newsletter.
Dr Christopher recognises the absolute connection between diet, bowel health and how it affects the rest of the body.
If the bowels are moving well, the blood will be cleaner and will have greater capacity to nourish and heal us.
90% of disease is said to begin in the bowels.
Ideally our bowels should move after each meal, therefore three times a day. One of the colons jobs is to absorb extra liquid from waste in the bowel before it exits the body hence the importance of drinking plenty of water. If waste sits too long in the bowel, it continues to break down and ferment, at the same time absorbing liquid until the faeces becomes dry, hardened and compacted. As a result our blood stream becomes toxic, our liver becomes congested and constipation results hence the importance of six to eight glasses of water daily (not freezing cold), eating lots of fruit and vegetables and lowering stress encourages daily bowel movements.
More on this subject soon!
