Here are some tips for using wash tablets safely:
Liquid laundry capsules can cause poisoning. Make sure the capsules are stored out of reach and sight. They are often packaged in child-friendly colours.
You can store them in a cupboard with a child safety lock, or in an overhead cupboard.
Always keep the packaging closed when wash tablets aren't in use.
Close the washing machine door, close the washing machine door as soon as you add the wash tablets.
Capsules must be kept in their original container and fully closed when not in use.
Be prepared If a child swallows a wash tablet, be ready to tell them details about the product, how much they believe has been swallowed, and how long ago. If the liquid has made contact with their eyes, flush them out with cold, clean water immediately for at least 10 minutes, and should get medical treatment immediately.

Meningitis and sepsis can kill in hours so it’s critical to know the symptoms so you can act fast.
If your child is unwell with ANY of these symptoms, go to a hospital or call for an ambulance immediately:
❗Over 38°C in babies under three months
❗Has a temperature and feels abnormally cold to touch/very cold hands and feet
❗Very fast breathing, finding it much harder to breathe than normal, or noticeable pauses in breathing
❗Grunting and/or noises with every breath
❗Very lethargic / difficult to wake / not responding
Fitting / convulsion / seizures
❗Weak, high pitched or continuous crying in a younger child
❗Confusion or unusually irritable
❗Soft spot on a baby’s head is bulging
❗Stiff neck, especially when trying to look up and down
❗Unusually sleepy, stiff or floppy baby
❗Pale, blotchy or mottled skin - this may be harder to see on brown or black skin
❗A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass - the rash can be harder to see on brown or black skin. Check paler areas, such as the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, roof of the mouth, tummy, whites of the eyes or the inside of the eyelids.
❗Not had a wee or wet nappy for 12 hours or more
❗Very thirsty and not able to keep fluids down
❗Bloody or black ‘coffee ground’ sick
Some of these red, high-risk symptoms are not typical signs of meningitis or septicaemia (sepsis) but are still signs of severe illness, so, if your child is unwell and has any of the red symptoms, get urgent medical help.

The Danger in Butten batteries
Perhaps you are very careful not to buy toys with button batteries, but many common items around your home also contain them, which means there is always a risk that they could be accessible for your child.
Take a look around your home to spot where you might have them 👀
Make sure all the battery compartments are secure and unable to be opened by a small child.
Think about where you store your replacement batteries for these items. Are they completely out of reach for children?
When you are changing batteries, what do you do with the old ones? Are they put somewhere secure?
Button batteries are everywhere, even in surprising places, so it’s super important to know the dangers, assess your risks at home and mitigate as far as possible.
Button batteries can be found in Car key fobs ,Watches and Fitness trackers , Alarms , Digital thermometers, Remote controls , Fairy lights, Calculators and Card readers , Light up toys and many more things. 💚
