Those brown spots you’re suddenly noticing are rarely random. They’re sun damage from decades ago finally rising to the surface, often made worse by hormones or pregnancy. If you’re anything like me the first time you look at the backs of your hands and think ‘surely I’m way too young to have old hands?’ was in your forties…although it could have been earlier if you loved a bit of Sun In and a sunbed in the 90s or 00s. (Guilty on both counts 😳)

Thankfully IPL works beautifully at improving the appearance of:

• age spots and sun damage
• hyperpigmentation and melasma
• active acne and breakouts
• redness and rosacea
• thread veins

As many of you know I get very excited about launching a new treatment but that’s purely because I listen to what’s bothering you and then spend many hours finding the best thing to help. IPL was the obvious next step for Prestige Skin but the decision wasn’t made lightly!

Obviously in true Abby style I researched the Lynton Dynamix and all its competitors within an inch of its life before committing, because your safety always comes first and I wanted a machine that delivers proper, measurable results. What I found was that Lynton are a gold standard for medical-grade IPL in the UK and the outcomes speak for themselves. So a few conversations later and the machine is arriving this week eeeeeek 🤩

If you think IPL could be a good treatment option for you then comment IPL below as and I’ll pop you on the waitlist for 25% off your first treatment when we launch in a couple of weeks ✨

3 things I nearly always recommend if I suspect rosacea:

1️⃣ speak to your GP about prescription support, because sometimes rosacea really does need a medical approach alongside skincare. That might be 20% azelaic acid, and if it looks more like papulopustular rosacea, sometimes 1% ivermectin may also help. ✨ Top tip - when booking your appointment ask to see the GP that has a special interest in dermatology as there’s likely to be one at your GP practice and you’ll get a better outcome if you do!

2️⃣ The second thing is we need to look at what you’re actually putting on your skin. So many people are using products that are unknowingly making things worse. With rosacea, less is often more. We want skincare to be simple, calming, soothing, and focused on repairing the skin barrier.

And the third thing is to start noticing your triggers. Things like heat, alcohol, stress, spicy food, exercise, all of those can play a part, and once you know your triggers, flare-ups can start to make a lot more sense.

I also often recommend IPL because it can be such a game changer for the redness, flushing, and little thread veins that come with rosacea. If you’re fed up with your skin looking permanently flustered, this is often where we can make a really visible difference, and quite quickly too.

So if redness, flushing, or thread veins are something you’d love help with, comment the word ROSACEA and I’ll add you to the priority list for a very exciting new treatment launching in a couple of weeks 🤩

Here is a video about what is best for acne, acne scarring and rosacea and some of the treatments we offer at Prestige Skin Clinic.

The most important thing to understand is this:

These are inflammatory conditions.

If you only treat what you see on the surface, the cycle continues.

For rosacea, we focus first on calming inflammation with cold plasma therapy (dr planton) a gentle way to reduce bacterial activity and settle reactive skin. We can then strengthen and repair with Polynucleotides to improve appearance

For acne, we control the active phase first using BioRePeel to reduce bacteria and congestion without over-stripping the skin.

Once acne is stable, we address scarring with microneedling or RF microneedling depending on your skin and the depth of scarring.

If you’re based in Cambridge and feel stuck in a cycle with your skin, book a consultation and let’s treat the cause properly.

If your skin suddenly feels sensitive, tight, unpredictable or constantly irritated… it’s not “just one of those things.”

It’s usually your barrier asking for help.

Your skin barrier is the protective outer layer that keeps water in and environmental stressors out. When it’s functioning properly, your skin looks clearer, calmer and more even. It heals well. It tolerates actives. It behaves.

When it’s impaired, everything feels harder.

You might notice:
* Products that used to feel fine now sting
* Breakouts that don’t heal the way they used to
* Redness that lingers
* Skin that’s oily but somehow flaky
* Makeup sitting poorly

Barrier damage doesn’t happen randomly.

It’s often caused by:
* Over-exfoliating
* Using multiple strong actives together
* Jumping into high-strength retinoids too quickly
* Skipping moisturiser
* Not wearing SPF
* Following trends instead of a structured plan

When the barrier is compromised, inflammation increases.

And inflammation impacts everything: acne, pigmentation ageing, sensitivity.

This is why protecting your barrier is not “basic skincare.” It’s advanced skin strategy.

A healthy barrier allows:
• Better collagen stimulation
• Improved response to treatments
• More predictable results
• Stronger, more resilient skin long term

Barrier repair means sticking to skin care (add treatments that can help here)

You cannot treat your way out of a damaged barrier. You have to rebuild it.

Book in a skin consultation and I can see how I can help you!
