It's been a while! Hello 👋 I've been busy offline and almost finished a huge study assignment, which means soon I'll be taking a break from being a student.

So what's new? I've recently joined the strategic advisory board for https://www.befreecampaign.org/

The Be Free Campaign is a mental health charity that aims to give people the tools they need to look after their mental health and wellbeing in order to live happier more fulfilling lives.

I've volunteered with the charity for a few years now, our last project - soon to be published- is a childrens mental health book. I am looking forward to my new role with them in an advisory capacity, they are a hugely passionate and ambitious team.

I am planning my diary for 2022 from mid January. If you are looking for counselling I can offer you free online sessions (between 1 and 6 -60 minute sessions) - and for free! I will consider face to face working dependant on location and individual circumstance.

I am a student counsellor completing my second year training and require to keep a portfolio of my practical work, I have completed over 70 hours so far delivering a variety of therapy sessions for volunteers.

If you know of anyone interested who could benefit from this free service please share my page. You can contact me via sending me a direct message.

Dr Aaron T. Beck
Do you know the name?
He is recognised as the father of Cognitive Behavior Therapy or CBT.
He died yesterday at the age of 100.
Thought it prominent to share this as CBT is such a useful therapy that has and will go onto support so many lives.

To find out more about CBT visit this NHS page: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/talking-therapies-medicine-treatments/talking-therapies-and-counselling/cognitive-behavioural-therapy-cbt/overview/

And more on the Beck Institute here https://beckinstitute.org/

Read about cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

Sometimes we compare our mood and feelings with others and pile on guilt.

'That persons got it worse the me, I shouldn't be feeling this way'

Its easy to do and totally understandable. But I am telling you now, your struggles, your thoughts and your feelings are real, they are valid, its completely acceptable to feel down, sad or angry- even if you dont seem to have the justification to do so.

Our levels of tolerance and resilience change, sometimes we are ready to face and get through big challenges, and sometimes the smallest things can impact us greatly. It wont be consistent, it wont be comparable to someone else's experience.

Just because they are going through a hard time, doesnt make your mental health, mood or feelings invalid. Show compassion to yourself as you would do with a friend.

If you are like me, learning to take a break and say no can feel lazy, rude, like giving up or a waste of functional time. My energy levels currently are depleted and I'm hearing this from a lot of people...We've globally been through a health pandemic, and economical hardship, isolation, ever changing flow of rules and information. On top of the shared stress we all have our own personal stresses, all in all an overwhelming time. Taking a break is a chance to heal, process and refresh (you may need to do this once, maybe frequently). You wouldn't keep running on an injured or strained foot, you would be gentle with it, remember to be gentle with you. The risk we pose on ourselves if we don't take a break is burn out-- when our body and mind are so overwhelmed they make us stop. I understand its a privilege to be able to take a break, life responsibilities don't end, so plan and factor in what is absolutely necessary and what can be put on hold and where you can ask for support. Share your tips with me below, on how you take a break so others can feel inspired and learn how to better manage their mental health.

Therapists get anxious too! I'm still a trainee/student counsellor so offer volunteer (free) sessions (however I am fully qualified in hypnotherapy) so I do have all these thoughts from time to time. I'm a working progress as much as you are, which I hope makes me far more approachable for you to reach out to. Just know that I truly want to be there for you and support you.

Traumatic Birth support.
Peer support can be a wonderful way to process difficult experiences and connect with community. Finding others that have gone through similar things can help bring acceptance and a way to share coping strategies or actions to help. Just having someone to listen who gets it. Here is a peer support group of 'birth listeners' if you need to talk to someone about your baby's birth.

You can also DM me if you're interested in free counselling sessions with a student councillor or if you want to experience a calm more relaxing birth after a traumatic one through hypnobirthing.

Does your birth still play on your mind? Does your experience show up in your life in a negative or upsetting way?

Birth Listeners is a safe space for you to share your birth story 1-to-1 with a trained birth listener. This might include exploring your feelings, how your experiences affect your daily life now and what a future free of negative feelings might look.

Your birth does not need to have happened recently, and nothing specific needs to have happened during it to make it a negative experience.

If you would like to join us at a FREE face-to-face or virtual session then please head over to our website at newbabynetwork.co.uk/birthlisteners for more information or email newbabynetwork@gmail.com with any questions.

Our face-to-face sessions take place Fridays 1-2.30pm at Dorothy Parkes Centre in Smethwick - babies and supporters are welcome to come too!

Booking in advance is essential:

Hypnobirth? Have you heard of it? Do you have questions? Do you want to find out more?

I am looking to see if theres enough interest for me to deliver a free online introduction to hypnobirthing. A Small presentation followed by a Q&A.

If you're interested, give this a like, comment or message my page. What platform would you want to see it? Zoom invite? Facebook live? What would you want me to talk about specifically? Let me know!

If enough people are interested, I'll set a time and date up.
