Let’s talk about Massage & Mental Health...

If you are one of the many who experience depression, anxiety or simply over loaded with stress, massage can be an effective part of your road to recovery supporting you to find a sense of relief and calm.

Research has shown massage therapy can significantly improve mood by encouraging the body to produce endorphins like Serotonin and Dopamine. These endorphins are what help to regulate our mood and help us relax. Those suffering with mental health issues particularly depression are often found to have low levels.

Massage is a supportive, holistic approach and it’s benefit to mental health is just one of the many reasons why everyone should invest in themselves and have a massage, schedule yours today by getting in contact.

Calling all Horse Riders !

Riders in particular may suffer due to the manual type of work involved in caring for horses, in all weathers! Horse Owners that spend money on regular treatment for their horses, often neglect themselves.
If you and your horse want to perform at your best and gain the most enjoyment from the sport, you must look after your own body, as well as that of your best friend.
A rider’s lack of flexibility, strength and fitness can severely limit their ability to perform, but a relatively small investment in time can have far reaching positive effects on performance as a rider.
Horse riding, can be a dangerous sport! Being thrown from a horse can lead to serious injuries, as well as soft tissue damage to tendons, ligaments and muscles.
Sports Massage can help to:
• Improve your balance when riding, helping you to become more secure and more effective.
• Develop a deeper seat and sit straighter in the saddle
• Relax joints and improve flexibility
• Develop an awareness of left/ right sided dominance
Whilst riding our posture can be affected by any imbalance within the horses body. Whilst wanting to help the horse with their crookedness and muscle weakness, we should also be considering our own balance.
As a therapist and a horse rider I would recommend regular sports massage. It is an ideal way to keep a regular check on the body to prevent some of the repetitive injuries that you may not notice developing. A Sports Massage may be needed to help relax tension areas and restore functionality to weakened areas. However, you might also benefit from a Relaxing Massage that can help improve your frame of mind, as well as relax your body, to ensure your Horse only experiences a relaxed version of yourself.

If you feel I can help, get in touch.

Some of my clients have told me about previous experiences which have shocked me!

So, SHOULD SPORTS MASSAGE HURT?

During sports massage, when therapists work e.g. on overactive/shortened (tight) muscles or trigger points, they apply pressure on the affected areas.
True, this may cause some discomfort. However, the intensity of discomfort can be easily managed by giving constant feedback to your therapist who can adjust and gauge their pressure to meet your specific level of pain tolerance.
Sports massage doesn’t have to be excruciatingly painful to work!
Experiencing too much pain during a treatment can actually be contra productive, as you will tense up your muscles instead of relaxing them.

So in answer to the question .... there may be some level of discomfort at times during the treatment but this should never be excruciating and should never leave someone being put off by further treatments!

Book in with me to experience a Sports Massage you will want to keep coming back for!

Anyone for a HOT STONES treatment?

The use of hot stones for healing purposes dates back thousands of years.
The earliest use of hot stones to improve health and relaxation is believed to have taken place in India, approximately 5,000 years ago. Around 3,000 years later, the Chinese used shaped stones while burning mugwort to treat disease. They also placed stones on the abdomen to improve digestion and the function of internal organs.

Stones have been used in many ways for healing and relaxation and introduced by many different cultures. Modern-day use of hot stone massage is varied to suit many different needs.

Use within Sports Massage:

When used within sports massage, Hot Stones can be relaxing and stress relieving. The heat from the stones produce an endorphin release, increase localised blood flow and lymphatic flow, whilst increasing the removal of metabolic toxins and reducing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), muscle tension and increasing range of motion.
