More than 55 million people around the world live with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Yet too often, their stories are hidden behind stigma, silence, or misunderstanding.

On World Alzheimer’s Day, we come together to shine a light on the facts, the signs, and the people behind the diagnosis.

🔍 Did you know?

1 in 3 older adults dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

It claims more lives than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

Memory loss is not a normal part of aging.

If you notice changes in yourself or someone close to you - confusion, difficulty with familiar tasks, or mood shifts - don’t wait. Speak to your GP. Early detection matters.

We are proud to announce the completion of a £30 million redevelopment at Edward Street Hospital in West Bromwich.

This major investment forms part of a national programme to remove dormitory-style wards.

Patients who are currently being cared for at Bushey Fields Hospital in Dudley will return once Edward Street Hospital reopens in October.

An official opening event will take place on 18 September 2025, where we will welcome partners, colleagues, and members of the community to celebrate this important milestone.

We would like to thank our staff, partners; IHP (Principal Supply Chain Partner), Archus (consultancy partner), and WT Partnership (Cost Advisors), along with everyone who has contributed to making this transformation possible.

Today, we join healthcare organisations across the UK and beyond in recognising World Patient Safety Day (WPSD).

Led by the World Health Organization (WHO), this annual event highlights the importance of safe, high-quality care for all. This year’s theme - “Safe care for every newborn and every child: Patient safety from the start!” - reminds us that safety begins with trust, compassion, and listening.

At BCHFT this message speaks directly to our mission. Whether we’re supporting a young person through their first therapy session or helping a family navigate crisis, we are committed to creating safe spaces where children and young people feel protected, respected, and supported from the very beginning.

We know that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. That’s why we work closely with parents, carers, schools, and other professionals - because every adult around a child plays a vital role in building confidence, resilience, and hope.

Today is

Every child deserves safe, quality health care from the very beginning.

But far too many children worldwide are put at risk by unsafe care. Due to their rapid development, evolving health needs, and reliance on adults. Children are particularly vulnerable when health care is not designed for their unique requirements.

🧸 Age
🧸 Weight
🧸 Development
🧸 Medical needs
🧸 Ability to communicate
🧸 Context

Even a single safety incident can have lifelong consequences for a child’s health and development.

‘ from the start' is a reminder that begins with safe, child-centred care. PMNCH
