It is Age-Related Macular Degeneration awareness month.
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of sight loss in the UK for people over 50.
It affects the central vision needed for reading, driving, and recognizing faces.
February is AMD Awareness Month, highlighting the need for early detection of symptoms like blurred vision, distorted straight lines, or dark spots.
There are 2 types of AMD
Dry AMD (more common, slow progression)
Wet AMD (rapid, requires urgent treatment)
Symptoms:- Difficulty reading, straight lines appearing wavy, and blurred central vision.
Treatment:- No cure for dry AMD, but injections are available to manage wet AMD.
Risk Factors & Prevention: Smoking, age, and genetics increase risk; maintaining a healthy diet (leafy greens, fish) and eye exams can help.
If you have any concerns about your vision please get in touch, to book an appointment.
