It’s the first day of Safe Sleep Week!
Choose safe not pretty!

We asked over 4,600 new and expectant parents about safer sleep and social media, and 37% said they’d bought a product that goes against safer sleep advice.

Lots of people turn to social media for product recommendations, but it’s important to bear in mind that just because something is promoted online or an influencer or celebrity has a particular product doesn’t mean it follows safer sleep guidelines.

For help choosing baby sleep products, take a look at our product guide:https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/The-Lullaby-Trust-Product-Guide-Web.pdf

Day 3 of Domestic abuse organisations observed increased household tension & domestic abuse due to forced coexistence, economic stress, and fears about the virus. Increased isolation creates an escalation in abuse, where those who are living with an abusive partner or family member, may be less likely to ask for help. Fewer visitors to the household mean that evidence of physical abuse could have gone unnoticed. https://www.scie.org.uk/care-providers/coronavirus-covid-19/safeguarding/domestic-violence-abuse

It’s not safeguarding news, but it is a very worthy cause & close to many colleagues in our trust.
One of our pharmacy team is raising money on behalf of Julie and Phil Turley for THE DUDLEY GROUP NHS FOUNDATION TRUST CHARITY.
Julie and Phil's son James sadly passed away on 11th November 2021. Despite their grief James’s parents want to give back to the Critical Care Unit at Russells Hall Hospital and are raising money to purchase respirators, which will enable for visitors to see their loved ones on the unit. Follow the link below if you’d like to donate.

Hi friends, join me in making a difference by supporting a good cause! I'm raising money… Laura Holdsworth needs your support for The Turleys respirator fund.

It's Anti-bullying week this week. Did you know that bullying is a safeguarding concern?!

Talking & supporting anti-bullying is important

❗️Bullying affects a significant proportion of people and over half of young people will be bullied about the way they look.

❗️Bullying can happen to anyone and at any time, however most appearance-based bullying happens in school (before the age of 10 years) and those who are of higher weight; have a visible difference, a disability; belong to an ethnic minority of LGBTQ+ are particularly vulnerable to appearance-based bullying.

❗️Appearance-based bullying can cause negative body image and increased anxiety. Further, people often try to change the way they look or reduce the amount they eat as a result of bullying. Therefore, bullying can impact our mental and physical health.

What can we do?

❗️Promoting acceptance of all appearance can help foster inclusivity and kindness. If you are concerned about yourself or others please contact your school, parent (or a trusted adult) or a doctor.

❗️“In a world that can sometimes feel like it’s filled with negativity, one kind word can provide a moment of hope. It can be a turning point. It can change someone’s perspective. It can change their day. It can change the course of a conversation and break the cycle of bullying.” More more info visit the Anti-Bullying Alliance: https://anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk

❗️Seek support from your safeguarding team, listen to the child or adult & consider the circumstances & possible effects of bullying.
