Hello my name is Richard Birkett, I am a local Personal Trainer who has achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. This achievement has given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of ages, abilities and fitness levels all achieving fantastic results. Helping others is my biggest passion and seeing the effectiveness of my safe, fun and friendly approach to Health, Fitness and Well-being has kept me going strong. Well we got the 265kg up …… just!

250kg felt ok so after the pressure of a certain few individuals 😂 we went for it.

Just over 2 months to the Deadlifting Championships @ the Arnold Sports Festival NEC Birmingham where we will be attempting to break the British 🇬🇧 Deadlifting Record of 265kg for my Age and Weight Category 🤞

After the busiest Christmas ever with work and not much time off I just decided to keep training and focus on building up the weakest links of my Squat which is my Quadriceps.

To do this I have brought back the lovely Hack Squat over the last few weeks.

Now Up to 3 x 20kg plates + a 10kg on each side for 3 Sets of 3 Reps (new PB)

Short Term - 4 plates each side for 3-5 reps
Long Tern - 5 plates each side

Also messed about with some Rack Pulls and managed the 300kg again ………… just 😬

I always ask my clients what GOALS they would like to achieve each year, even though I kinda tell some of them what they should be 😝🤣.

But I just wanted to put mine out there for some accountability.

As a Personal Trainer and Instructor of many many years I’ve always pushed Short and Long Term goals as best I can.

Surely you want to be exercising for a reason and purpose 🤔

I challenge you to write some GOALS for 2026.

Well the perfect start to the year with some good old bench press 🏋️‍♀️

🛑 Haven’t used the festive and New Year period as an excuse to stop training but will have a week off at the end of the month in Tenerife ✈️ ☀️ 🏖️

Not the best angle or most flattering but been consistent we have already hit a lifetime GOAL ⬇️

✅ 140kg Bench Press (3 plates each side)
✅ Also a 135kg Pause Bench (competition rep) +2.5kg heavier than my last competition

Shoutout to with a massive 130kg PB grind, no pretty but got it up so something to work off and compare in the future 👏

Great work from and with great technical work trying to nail those competition (pause) reps.

That time of year again.

I can’t remember the last time I made a New Year’s resolution I prefer to give myself SHORT and LONG TERM GOALS along with just better HABITS.

I’ve continued to train hard through the festive season but have definitely overindulged but that’s ok you need to enjoy life and this time of year.

Hope this inspires people and gives you ideas of what habits to make.
