We’re sure you’ll have all seen how busy NHS services like ours have been this week, and are likely to continue to be over the weekend. We know that this time of year gets busy and our teams plan and prepare for this additional pressure every year – but while our colleagues do what they do best, we need your help too.

It is really important that if you or your loved one need urgent medical care for serious or life-threatening illness or injury, that you continue to come forward as normal.

But if you don’t have an urgent or emergency care need, please leave our emergency departments for those who do. Ask NHS 111 where else might be best for you to go. You might be waiting a little longer than usual, but that’s because those who are really poorly are being looked after first.

There are other ways you can help too – by reducing the spread of coughs and colds, supporting loved ones to return home when they’re ready to leave hospital, and by taking small steps to stay healthy and avoid injury where possible.

We’d like to say thank you to our hard working colleagues for their continued dedication, and to our local communities for your ongoing understanding and support.

We’ve been keeping our website fresh with the latest updates throughout winter, so please do take a look to find out what service would be best for you, and for any updates to our NHS services: https://www.somersetft.nhs.uk/winter-pressures/

If you find yourself needing help over the weekend, your nearest UTC/MIU might be the best place to get the treatment you need. If you are unsure, always contact 111 first.

Norovirus is circulating in Somerset — protect yourself and others. Wash hands with soap and water, clean surfaces regularly, and stay home if you’re unwell. Let’s stop the spread.

💙 Flu isn’t fun for little ones (or anyone in the family!). The flu vaccine helps protect your child and also helps stop flu spreading to brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents.
