Solway Disability Support

Solway Disability Support Solway Disability Support C.I.C is a day centre which supports people with learning disabilities to reach their potential

Introducing Solway Disability Support CIC

Solway Disability Support community interest company runs a day centre based at Kindar House, at the Crichton on Bankend Road, Dumfries. We support people with learning disabilities to reach whatever potential they are capable of by offering personalised tailored support to help them achieve their own goals within a safe environment. We can support them t

o work towards short, medium and long-term goals, whether that be short-term transition or long-term realisation of a volunteering or employability aim and everything in between. The service is flexible according to those individual needs and goals. We aim to promote physical exercise, healthy eating and social interaction for mental health & wellbeing. We support whilst encouraging independence within their capacity to improve self-esteem & confidence. We can offer volunteer/student placements from out-with Solway Support, to reduce stigma and teach engagement with those with disabilities. We can offer support to parents and carers in sourcing information, completing those endless forms and meeting others in a similar situation. Too often our challenged adults are forgotten about in society and left to sit around doing nothing all day with little exercise, motivation or stimulation. We want to change the perception that, because they have a disability, they are not able to live a fulfilled life. Our adults have the right to choose what they would like out of life, how they would like to achieve that and with whose support. They need and deserve a variety of social interactions, like anyone else, to form long-term friendships with their peers and other like-minded individuals. We can offer individuals a range of tailored activities and experiences including;

Sports, exercise and outdoor activities for health & wellbeing

Menu planning, shopping and cooking for healthy eating

Route planning, timing and practice in bus travel for access

Transition support for moving on from school, college or home

We will work together with individuals, their families and carers to put together a wish-list of goals and outcomes, no matter how small or ambitious they might be, to work towards. It will regularly be revisited and reviewed to ensure we are making that difference. As we know that many individuals will not communicate to their families what they have been doing, we will provide daily feedback to families on what we have been up to and their achievements that day. Being based at Kindar House, we have amazing grounds to get out and about in and there is a bus stop right outside from where we can travel into to access shops for cooking ingredients, sporting venues such as DG1 and Palmerston Arena, as well as transport for travelling further afield.

SAVE THE DATE - OUR BIG “ FIGHT BACK FUNDRAISER”

📅 When: 15th August
📍 Where: The Jolly Harvester, Calside Road, DG1 4HB

As some of you may know this year, a recent diagnosis hit incredibly close to all of our hearts. It reminded us just how precious life is, and how vital it is to stand together and support one another through the hardest of times. Following the amazing success of our charity day last year, it only felt right to come together and do it all again. After Grant’s diagnosis, there was no question about where this year’s contributions would be donated so we have decided to dedicate this year’s event to raising vital funds and awareness for Prostate Scotland and our incredible local team, Prostate Buddies, two organisations that do such life-changing work for men and families right here in our community. 💙

The total amount raised will be split equally between both charities.

Come along for a brilliant day out packed with:
⚽️ Fun games & activities
🍔 Delicious food & drinks
🎟️ Fantastic raffle & exciting auction
🤞 Fingers firmly crossed for plenty of sunshine!

This event is proudly hosted by Learmont & Sim Builders & OG Competitions Ltd

With a huge thank you to our sponsors so far:

We are looking for donations for our raffle and auction prizes. If you or your business would like to contribute, please send a message to this page, and Tilly (Grant’s daughter) will be in touch with you directly. Every donation, big or small, helps us make this event a huge success!

We really hope you can all come along, join in the fun, and support this wonderful cause that means so much to us. Let’s Fight Back💪

I've now done over 100 miles so far and Heather has done over 50, so we're well on track to hit our challenge targets.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far - very much appreciated.
Every penny will make a difference to the men out there who are being diagnosed with this disease every day.
Let's make their 'cancer journey' as it's called these days, a better and more hopeful one...
THANK YOU!
