Environmental Feature: Doors
This environmental example comes from Notwen House care home:
The toilet doors contrast with the wall to make the door more visible and they also have a sign with both words and a picture. This is a great example of helping people to find the toilet through an enabling environment.
Another example of making wayfinding easier is the door to the kitchen. It has glazing with stained glass transfers and the rest of the door is white and so blends in to the white wall. It is an attractive window, and this door doesn’t stand out, so this can make it easier for people to find their way to other rooms like the dining room, lounge or toilet.

Wellbeing Wednesday

It is very easy in everyday life to constantly be in a state of high threat. At these times, stress chemicals such as cortisol flood our brains, bringing with it feelings of overwhelm and anxiety.

We all however, have the ability to put a brake on our threat systems by tapping into lots of different activities that release positive brain 🧠 chemicals such as dopamine and oxytocin.

Sharing a lovely resource below for ideas 💡 of how to tap into these happy chemicals by doing small things such as spending time with friends, stroking a pet, walking in nature and celebrating small wins.

Never underestimate the impact of these tasks -not only changing our nervous system but making a difference to how we feel.

Health Improvement Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 -reducing stress and distress improvement programme is open for applications. This is the second year of the programme. It is open to hospital and care home services. The programme will run for 12 months.
