Wellbeing Wednesday

Many sources of our distress relate to external factors; what’s going on in the world, adverse life events and other people’s behaviour. It can therefore be easy to get down hearted or in despair, with many of these things being out with our control.

However, a reminder today that there are always things that we still have control over. Most notably how we choose to respond to the things that happen to us.

Never forget your influence of control.

Occupational Therapy Week

It’s OT week so we’re highlighting the difference OT can make when working with people with dementia and their families.

OTs help people to do the things they want or need to do. They can enable and support the person in a variety of ways, wherever that person is in their journey with dementia. Examples include helping people to compensate for the challenges they may be experiencing in day to day activities or finding or adapting occupations / activities which have meaning that help with the person’s wellbeing. You can find out more and access resources here:

Also big shout out to IDEAS 💡 own Specialist OT -Jilly Polson and the expertise and knowledge she brings to the team.

LET'S EAT!

This month's environmental feature is about the dining experience and comes from Belmont care home in Stranraer 🙂
The dining room has small tables and homely furnishings which encourages residents to engage in social interaction.
The tablecloths are a contrasting colour (tone) to the plates, placemats and salt and pepper shakers, enabling residents to see things more easily. The soft furnishings and the sliders on the chairs absorb and reduce noise. The new dining room minimises the amount of distractions, including the TV, and other busy areas within the home. In addition, soothing music is played and soft even lighting improves visibility. All of this allows for a more comfortable atmosphere and a positive dining experience.
With thanks to all at Belmont for sharing this with us 🥰
