DG Voice

DG Voice The voice of disabled people in Dumfries and Galloway DG Voice is a region-wide organisation of disabled people.

We work to ensure that Dumfries and Galloway businesses and organisations consider the needs and rights of all disabled people in everything they do. We are a place for people who experience disability to have their say about any matters that affect them. DG Voice is registered with OSCAR and Companies House and governed by a Board of Directors. Recognising the abilities of disabled people and our capacity to work on our own behalf, the DG Voice constitution requires that 75% of our members be disabled people.

Following this morning's session and workshops, we are now at the closing session of Scotland's Disability Summit at The Scottish Parliament.
To start, a summary of the workshops and some polls. There's a call for actions, not just words to come out of this summit. Disabled people want to see changes.

We are now attending a breakout session on at Scotland's Disability Summit at The Scottish Parliament chaired by Jeremy Balfour MSP, convenor of the cross party group of disability and Eilidh Morrison MSYP. This session is important to ensure all disabled people are included in the democratic process. Disabled people face a lot of exclusion and discrimination and it is important we can take part fully in society and be represented by politicians of our choice.

📣 Save the Date – Disabled People’s Question Time 2026 (Dumfries Watch Party)

Disabled People’s Question Time – Hustings 2026 is going local, and if you’re in Dumfries and Galloway, you’re invited to be part of it.

🗓 25 March 2026
⏰ 6–8pm
📍 Robert Burns Film Theatre, Dumfries

Join DG Voice for a local watch party as we livestream Inclusion Scotland’s national hustings from Edinburgh. Candidates from Scotland’s five main political parties will respond directly to questions from disabled people across the country.

The main event will feature live captions and BSL interpretation, and the Dumfries gathering offers a chance to connect locally, take part in the discussion, and be part of a national conversation.

Communities across Scotland are coming together for Disabled People’s Question Time — and we’re proud to see Dumfries on the map.

Inclusion Scotland

What is a hustings – and why does it matter for disabled people?

A hustings is a public event where voters can question political candidates directly about the issues that affect their lives. It’s an important part of democracy, giving people the chance to challenge politicians, hear their commitments, and hold them to account.

For disabled people, this space matters even more. Too often decisions are made about us, without us. Disabled People’s Question Time, Hustings 2026 creates a platform where disabled people’s lived experience, priorities and questions are placed at the centre of political debate ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections on 7 May 2026.

When: Wednesday 25 March 2026
Time: 6–8pm
Where: Assembly Rooms (Edinburgh) and online
♿ Live captions and BSL interpretation, please let us know about any other access requirements.

On the left side, there is an illustration of two people standing together, one using a wheelchair, shown in conversation with a question mark speech bubble, representing discussion and participation.

On the right side, the Inclusion Scotland logo appears alongside the text: “25 March 2026”, “Save the date!”, and “Disabled People’s Question Time (Hustings)”. The overall design emphasises inclusion, participation, and the importance of disabled people’s voices in democratic processes.

Dumfries & Galloway Council will soon finalise its budget for 2026/27, and one proposal would end funding for Representation and Engagement services provided to third‑sector organisations like ours.

Our funding may be small, but with it we achieve a great deal for disabled people across the region. We ensure voices are heard, needs are understood, and lived experience is represented where it matters.

Losing this support would have real consequences for disabled people in Dumfries & Galloway.

Help us continue fighting for inclusion, accessibility, and fairness across our communities.
