Wondering what barre is all about?

Here’s a little sequence (sped up x 5!) that we did Saturday morning that I then filmed for someone after class in my hallway so I thought I’d share it.

Not well lit, positioned or with any make up on but that’s not me in real life never mind the internet 😆

5.15pm Thursday (spaces) 6.25 (full), 8am Saturday (1 space)

Enjoy!

• Play time •

What else do you do when your middle class gets cancelled and you’ve an hour to play?

Reformer self-practice, where I get to work on my own goals, experiment with movements for classes and have a bit of me-time.

It goes without saying this is 40ish mins cut down to 30s!

ID: Kate is on a Pilates reformer demonstrating a series of exercises sped up.

• Room to Grow •

I shared a quote over on stories about being a beginner from

“Being a beginner doesn’t mean you are bad at something, it just means you have room to grow”.

Sometimes we are scared to be a beginner because we associate it with not being good enough. We want to skip ahead a few steps to the harder exercises but being a beginner can be a magical thing.

You have space to figure it out, to take your time, make mistakes, learn a new skill, be playful.

Like nailing control-balance off the reformer. It’s the getting back on I struggle with (fear!) but all the foundations I’ve laid in my practice, all of the repertoire is leading me here.

Who else is ready to be a beginner and enjoy the process of learning a new skill?

• Self-Practice•

Feeling inspired after my 1-1s today (thanks and Kevan too) to practice snake and twist 🐍

Part of the more challenging repertoire, I’ve been introducing it into classes in stages, so it can be accessible to everyone. We start standing on the floor (thanks .survilla for that tip!) and work our way up.

As always, Pilates is a practice, not a perfect and I’m always learning. I contemplated trying to do single arm snake but I couldn’t work out how to lift my arm off - shall try again another day!
