NCH&C dietitians support people with diabetes to create personalised meal plans that fit their lifestyle.

We encourage balanced meals with carbohydrates, protein and fibre, this helps slow energy release and stabilise blood glucose levels.

Try the following:
🔹Flaxseeds & blueberries on Weetabix
🔹Peanut butter & fruit on toast
🔹Hummus & cucumber in a sandwich
🔹Walnuts & fruit with oat biscuits
🔹Lentils added to spaghetti bolognaise
🔹Add chickpeas to curry

Including a bit of each food group at every meal or snack can help keep blood sugar levels steady.

10-16 November is Advanced Nurse Practitioner Week, and all week the spotlight will be on our ANP teams across the region.
Training as an ANP is a long and demanding process, equivalent to a master's degree, but it gives them the skills they need to assess, diagnose, investigate and plan treatment for patients. ANPs are key members of the clinical teams in hospitals, in GP practices, and in communities across the region. In DGRI and other hospitals, they can be recognised by their red uniforms.

Every second counts when it comes to recognising the signs of stroke. Knowing what to look for could help save a life — including your own.

Remember BE FAST:
B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
E – Eyes: Sudden vision changes or blurred sight
F – Face: Drooping on one side of the face
A – Arms: Weakness or numbness in one arm
S – Speech: Slurred or confused speech
T – Time: Time to call 999 immediately

These are the most common signs, but stroke symptoms can vary — from severe dizziness and headache to sudden confusion or difficulty understanding words. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait. Get medical help straight away.

If you’re a stroke survivor, what were your first symptoms? Share below to help others recognise the signs.
